That made me laugh. But yes, they're not metalcore. They're emocore/post-hardcore/screamo. Compare Underoath to real pop-punk bands like Fall Out Boy and you'll see a huge difference, but compare real metalcore bands like Unearth and As I Lay Dying (which are actually decent band) and you'll still see a huge difference. And what's wrong with bands singing about what they believe in?

Any band who uses 3-5 major power chord strumming patterns and major intervals on scale between them in EVERY SONG is Pop-Punk in my eyes.

Anyway, I don't have a problem with Christian bands. I just think it's funny to hear bands like Norma Jean and Zao that play extremely heavy experimental hardcore music screaming about how much they love Jesus and such. I mean come on, who doesn't find that funny?


For the record: I like a lot of metalcore, and I play in a metalcore band. I think good metalcore bands are very talented instrumentally and some bands have amazing lyricists (Unearth, I Killed The Prom Queen, The Human Abstract, and laugh if you want, As I Lay Dying), and I listen to all kinds of music. An Example - "Echelons to Molotov's" by The Human Abstract:

Standing, strong and tall.
Outside hear their call.
Tear down the wall, upper echelon,
Blackest of them all.
Sold us into sorrow, you love to watch the weaker ones crawl.
Don't pity our cause, for the laws you've disowned.

All I'm saying is metalcore gets a bad name from all the ****ty metalcore bands out there.

Uhh, those lyrics sound very, very beaten to death. Practically all of metal and its sub-genres have such terrible lyrics, and so much of it is poorly recorded and muddy.

I might seem like a total noob asking this, but what is the difference of metalcore and death metal? I used to think As I Lay Dying and Unearth were deathmetal bands but I guess not.

What would be your example of good lyrics then? I think that song is one of the best rebellion songs there is. I don't really know what you mean by beaten to death. If you mean other artist write lyrics about the same thing, well that's obvious and doesn't make lyrics any worse. If you believe that, than just about every song ever written is "terrible" lyrics.

If you're saying some one writes with the exact same style as Mike Garrigan then...... Rofl. You might as well not post after this, because that is laughable and extremely foolish. Especially if you're only judging based on one song.

I do like Turmion Katilot, but they're not metalcore, and they're not that good IMO. You're probably just the kind of person the loves bands like Amon Amarth and/or Scandinavian metal, although I don't know this for a fact. I generally don't like that kind of music that much.

I never said TK is metalcore, I said they were in the metal genre.

I'm not a huge fan of a lot of Scandinavian metal. I just happen to think that TK's music is mixed very well and is quite unique.

I personally think that the lyrics you posted have a lot of over-used phrases and imagery. I'm not one for simplistic lyrics, but at one point a song becomes oversaturated in trying to get its point across.

I guess we just listen to very different types of music because the only lines in that song I've heard something similar to by more than one other artist are most the first 4 lines.

I don't think that it has anything to do with tastes in music, I just think that the way the song constructs its imagery has been done many times before. I suppose I could dissect the song and explain every line, but I think it should be at least somewhat apparent.
