Computer Reformatting

Is it realllllly bad to have a W32/plate.wurm virus on your computer along with some spyware/adware and pretty much every file infected? ^_^ I really need to reformat my PC but my brother has the CD he won't bring it home. Are there anything that would take out all that stuff...for free?

you could try and get winxp off kazaa.. make it an ISO( i think thats what its called) and burn it to a disc.. then try using that to reinstall.. or if your using windows xp.. goto search and look up restore.. a system restore link should come up.. and you can restore your comp to an earlier date to see if that helps..

or go under your add/remove files in control panel and delete the spyware files by hand. Its work somewhat.

Kazaa=virus waiting to infect removing by hand=tried,didn't work adware=didnt try,yet spybot search and destroy=maybe ill get it soon PROBLEM= "http://i-lookup.com" pops up as my homepage along with a massive load of pop-ups,also,a bar under my standard buttons with links to unnessesary sites. I change my homepage back to normal,but still i-lookup.com keeps showing up. System Restore=I forgot bout that!,(trying right now)

er...those viruses probably destroyed alot of shit...especially if you've had them for awhile. It depends...some of the really bad trojans and shit are fucking hell

you can't really fix those :S i had a virus eat away at my windows system files.

You'll probaby have to get it repaired. Unless you're lucky and there isn't much damage done, might be able to clean things up and it will work fine.

Well, I-lookup.com is gone now! hurray! same with that annoying toolbar with it. IE got an error and I sumbimitted it and it sent me to this site and it was a faq on how did i-lookup.com become my homepage and how to uninstall and everything. Now I just have to worry about this "W32/plate.wurm" I think my computer is pretty much dead from it. I have downloaded virus scan programs before and all of them,scanned over 300 files infected. So my computer is just screwed. Theres no way Im gonna take it to or get somone from Fry's Electronics...they jipped me twice on my floppy drive.

P.S. System Restore did absolutely nothing...Restore Date was Jan 5 one day earlier and it woulda done a hell of a lot. Sombody put my system restore usage space all the way to minimum

I bought a new hard drive. No more infected files, and you start off fresh. Kind of expensive...but it will fix all your problems that you're having instantly. Just be careful after you put it in. Don't download kazaa, or any of those file sharing things, unless you want problems again. They're problem city, virus city, and spyware city. I never EVER get popups now with the new hard drive, and i don't have a blocker. I just don't download crap anymore. Also watch downloading off private pages or weird sites, because virus scanners don't do ASS, you can get infected with tons of trojans even if you have nortan. Nortan will only really block stuff like email viruses.

Thanks! I know new hard drives are like expensive,I will probably buy a 80gb hard drive,right now i have 40 :/, I was going to actually buy Nortan because of all the problems I've had in the past,but now I know it doesn't even block trojans,so it's a rip off. WAIT A SECCCCCCCCC....EMAIL REMINDS ME...GRRRRRR....I think I got my virus through email! holy shit,I never realized that.No wonder...I remember my computer was perfectly fine,I got like 4 emails that said "details in file attachment" and of course I have hotmail and it has Nortan as a virus scan on it,it said I had a virus called "W32/plate.wurm" but I think I downloaded one of them,how fucking idiotic of me, and thats how this whole mess started

just watch out. might have infected some windows files and stuff too :S so yea...you might wanna reinstall the windows too or something. wouldn't hurt. the hard drive will format really fast...took me like 2 or 3 minutes maybe. little extra time wouldn't hurt

and yea...nothing really blocks trojans :S big problem. MOST of them don't cause problems though. Its when you download all kinds of stuff, then a badass trojan comes along

thats the problem with them. 99% of the time you don't even know you have them untill your pc is acting weird, running slower and crashing and you wonder why :/ damn things. thats why you have to be careful as hell downloading stuff, especially off kazaa or porn.
