    What measures skill?

everyone talks about how good they are all the time on here.. but i wonder.. what makes someone who can AAA uber rave.. better than someone that can AA it..

just by looking at those ranking you think.. player A is better.. but lets look at the details.. player A has played uber rave a million times to get that score.. Playber b has only played it 12 times.. i would say player B is a better player because for the amount of times he has played the song he got a good ranking..

Is skill measured in how good you can do on certain songs??.. I haver never beaten Payon.. nor Payon V2.. i have have them both a combined total of 6 times.. does this make someone who has played it constantly for a week straight learning the pattern of it better than me??..

Im just wondering what the people think makes a good player..

No, cause your skill level moves up as you play songs several times. Ie. When I first got uberrave I sucked and couldn't even read it properly, now it is not because I have learned the patterns it is because I can read the arrows and stuff that you can AAA it and stuff. Like, that's why I have no problem on shuffle, etc. Plus, passing songs like payon isn't what makes it hard. I haven't memorized Payon yet I can AA it because I can read the notes not cause I memorized the patterns necessarily. Plus, it's not cause you played all the songs a million times that your skill level becomes so high, yes you are correct that might be the difference between a AAA and a AA, but why do you think most people who can AAA super hard songs can get AA's on almost EVERY hard song within 1/2 tries? It is cause by playing certain songs several times their skill level improves.

Skill level should be judged by how well you can read arrows and how accurately you can hit these arrows to the way they are placed on the screen. If it takes you many tries to get to this level, then so be it. But if someone can AAA uberrave/AAA arrabbiata/AAA gravity, etc. I'm sure they could pwnd a hard song like vanish v2 or cynic or something first time.

I see what your saying.. and i agree with most of it..

but lets look at another scenario...
Player A HATES songs that just throw doubles in just to make the song hard.. hates it so much that just by seeing that the step file creator has done it he quits the song.. but player B loves doubles and likes it when doubles are thrown in because he can easily read them.. but what player 2 cant stand is quick runs.. like 170 bpm with 16ths... but player A loves those and can fc those parts of a song easily..

who would be considered the better player??..

I see what 87x is saying.

And it's the same reason I FCed run the place red and can't AAA Uber Rave: I suck horribly at some of the patterns in uber rave.

What makes someone a good player?

Someone who can score well, overall, on various songs. Everyone is weak at certain types of songs, and better at others....so if you were going to compare or compete with someone you would have to do it over a wide variety of different songs.

sounds like player A doesnt like technophobia

i think it really doenst matter who has skills and who doesnt...people lie, people cheat, they use photoshop...if youre good you dont need to brag and have people pat you on the back all the time...i think the people with the most skill are those who can be humble about it

I am the doubles person. In fact, doubles help my rhythm if the doubles are done at points of articulation.

I don't memorize songs; I learn patterns. Then when the patterns start to come up more I can get them easier. A good example of this is FF Battle. Songs like secret zombie room are just "watch the arrows come up and press the key." A good player gets better at songs quicker. They might start out a song worse, but they will pass up the other person fairly quickly. It is the song rhythms that are learned, not the arrows. Then you can just fill the arrows in to the rhythm. This is how I play.

My worst problem is that I get TOO set on rhythms. Secret zombie room, FF Battle, and breaking the common are fairly easy for me, but if I try to play Snowman and Sunshine girl, I will lose hideously because it breaks the rhythms.

i know what you mean cenright.. i can notice patterns... then i get my mind set on a pattern and start to do it regardles of what the actual steps are.. this is the main cause for my misses/goods/almosts/boos...

I like doubles and runs. Heh.

Anyway... you're good if you can get good grades on hard songs. That's basically it.

I kind of see what 87x is saying. I think that when two people play the song for the first time, whoever gets a better score is better, because then he's relying on pure skill, not memorization of the song. Of course, some people are better at turns, some at doubles, some at runs...whatever. I don't think there's any way to throw out a blanket statement like that. I mean, how do you distinguish who of two people is smarter? Sexier? Stronger? It's a dilemma, for sure.
