Yeah, someone build me a really good laptop computer. (I'd naturally get a desktop, but I'm in college, moving in and out of the country constantly, and I like being mobile. At the very least I'd like to run Vanguard:Saga of Heroes at a decent frame rate (and by that I mean: highest frame rate)).

I would LOVE to assemble my own Laptop computer. =( However there just aren't many options available for people to custom build their laptop. Closest thing you could get is probably one of those custom HP laptops they offer at Hewlett Packard.
If I can fit what I have as a desktop, into a laptop, that would be my dream computer. Portability and usability over anything.
I want a computer that is attached to a jet-pack so I can fly around the world and leech people's wireless.
Hehehe... funny
My dream computer is already something I'm investing in..
It will be about 1800 if I get it right.
The 6600 or 6700 core 2 duo processor.
Some motherboard that can be upgraded (from Asus)
2g of ram (1g sticks duh)
2-250g hard drives
Windows XP pro (best there is)
nvidia gts 8800 (only 320mb of vram instead of 640)
creative soundblaster audigy (good for only 30 dollars lol)
uhh 2 lightscribe dvd drives
uhhhhhh, oh yeah! one of those 13-in-one card readers that also read and write floppys.
not much else I can say, I think that's about it
Oh yeah-- fans with blue led lights on them
AAAs: 210 (186+7+17)
Best AAAs: Vertex BETA, Fighting for Control, Nova Pulser
Recent AAAs: {Firestorm}, Dazzling Destiny, Hellbeat v2p 2nd place in 3rd Official Tournament
1st place in Jugglin/Jteh's 1st Tournament

Actually there's quite a market out there for custom building laptops. It's not hard to find a shell and there are lots of different options for the internal parts.
and I'd love to see how your setups handle Oblivion, show me plzkthx, because I just can't see an $800 computer running oblivion's outdoor environments with max settings and max res running at a decent framerate with no hiccups.

i only said ultra because it was the most advanced one i saw on the page i was on. i haven't researched it at all. as for a motherboard, i know next to nil about them, let's say a nVidia 680i, because i don't know offhand a better one and i don't care to look.
I forgot to delete "Duo." It was late and I was tired.
I wasn't really being very serious. We've talked about what I'm actually looking for in a computer. Here's an update:
As of now I'm going to buy a Dell XPS 710 in the near future (read: once I have the money) with:
Core 2 Duo E6600 4MB L2 Cache, 2.4GHz, 1066 FSB
4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 4 DIMMs
7-slot, BTX design motherboard
Windows XP Media Center Edition
320GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache
Single Drive: 16X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability
256MB nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS
AGEIA PhysX physics accelerator
Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic (D) Sound Card
750-watt power supply
2.5MM aluminum thickness Chassis with front & back customizable LEDs
Tower Six-heat pipe, Copper base Heat Sink with aluminum fans
Two 120mm x 38mm front fans
I'm sure that'll accomplish everything I want it to, being casual gaming. WoW, EQ2, Heroes of Might and Magic 5, Age of Empires 3, ...maplestory
20 inch UltraSharp™ 2007WFP Widescreen Digital Flat Panel

How much are you paying for that? You can do a lot more with a 2.8ghz AMD FX-2 which costs loads less than the core 2 duo and is way better for the price..

Without bells and other assorted prepackaged whistles it's 2.7k which is extremely expensive but the best you can get for a prebuilt. That 2.7k includes basic keyboard/mouse, speakers, anti-virus software, 1-year warranty, and a few things I'm forgetting. The packages make it somewhat worthwhile as I add on software, games, external storage, etc. I end up paying about 3.1k for the whole thing.
i have a somewhat irrational hatred of AMD. don't ask why.
Just built it yourself, Its really damn easy and you can get double performance ratio compared to pre-built junk ridden hogs. 1st rule of things when, buying a Dell, don't buy it, If you did, format it right away. Talking strictly about desktops here in case you laptop people decide to come up in arms. ;o rule #2 applies to laptops as well.

That's a rediculous price. And AMD is no different than intel. They're simply a rival manufacturer with a different name and different colors. Their products are just as good.
And Dells and other manufactured PCs come with a whole bunch of pre-installed crap that clogs up your computer.
One more thing, anti-virus programs suck, and they completely slow down even the most powerful computers I use. And the one time I had a "virus", Norton kept whining about it, and couldn't remove it, so I had to go and remove it by myself. Anti-Virus programs are expensive pieces of ****.
A basic keyboard costs about $5.00, depending on the place. That's all you're going to get with a Dell keyboard, on average. You can get a good optical mouse for not much more. And a Creative speaker system with crystal clear quality will cost you about $99.
External storage is definitely something to avoid, unless you have multiple computers you're transfering the data to and from and don't need a server. Stick with slapping HDDs in your system.

I have my dream computer, it can alt+tab comfortably between programs in less than one second, which is much better than my old computer, which took around two minutes to alt+tab between a game and the desktop.
I also wouldn't change my computer, just for a little better parts, I could alt+tab a couple milliseconds faster or play my games with a couple more FPS. That is all. I'm pretty confident my computer can run anything you throw at it.

I built my computer. It's very simple, and there are 1000s of online guides on how to do the hard stuff. I was kind of afraid I would do something wrong, and fry my computer in a few days, but it's pretty simple and my computer is working great 2 months later.

Instead of taking her out to a movie and buying her popcorn, bend her over the arm of a couch. It's very economical. Just make sure you are using the proper protection, because then it can become VERY, VERY GOD DAMN UNECONOMICAL if she pops a baby 9 months down the road.
