    Learning Japanese: Intro Lessons

Okay, so, I know many people on the FFR forums watch anime, or read manga. Soooo, I found a website that teaches you Japanese. I found it because I really hate reading subtitles on anime, and listening to shows dubbed. Anyways, here's the link:Learning Japanese: Intro Lessons

Not a bad site for beginners, those 14 lessons should last a beginner for a couple weeks or so.
Tip: Anyone seriously considering learning Japanese should learn the ひらがな(hiragana) system as soon as possible, romaji (use of the english alphabet) will only hinder your progress.

Agreed. Hiragana and Katakana are actually pretty simple to learn, so don't get intimidated. Kanji are the ones people think of and get scared about how hard it is (those are the more complex characters like in Chinese). Just don't worry about those for now, and you'll start to pick some up naturally once you've already got the basics down.

Kanji isn't that hard, I learned 900 in 2 months, out of 3000~ you need to know as a normal Japanese Adult. It takes self discipline and a little planning of course.

            That's crazy, 900 漢字 in 2 months?
So do you know all of the main readings of those?
It took me like a year and a half to get where I'm at now~1200漢字.
Better yet, the Japanese spend 6 years learning about the first 1000 in elementary school.

Yes, but I already had pretty big vocab prior(helps a lot), I am using heisig method, combination of flash cards with readings in kana, plus I am also taking a calligraphy class here in NYC with Japanese teacher and all my classmates Japanese as well(so a nice environment to learn) sensei is nice enough to help a lot, with not only calligraphy.

I write a lot, with brush and pen.

I spend on avg 3 hours a day on Kanji. Just fyi.

I watched clouds awobbly from the floor o' that kayak. Souls cross ages like clouds cross skies, an' tho' a cloud's shape nor hue nor size don't stay the same, it's still a cloud an' so is a soul. Who can say where the cloud's blowed from or who the soul'll be 'morrow? Only Sonmi the east an' the west an' the compass an' the atlas, yay, only the atlas o' clouds.
