I think it is just the large influx of new users who neglect the newbie forum. I was thinking maybe we should put the newbie forum first instead of chit chat?

Shouldn't there be a way to make sure people read the rules when they sign up? That shouldn't be too hard to implement. And like I said, moving the newbie forum to the top of the page would probably eliminate most of these pointless threads that have been popping up. Think about it. In TGB, you don't see random HI LETZ CHAT threads by a random new user because they have to scroll ALL THE WAY down to get there. Humans are naturally lazy. Just a thought.

Maybe we could make a forum with just a bunch of locked Rules threads in it and put it on the top with the forum description of "READ THIS BEFORE YOU POST!"

Or you could always have a post requirement or something to post in certain forums. I hate having to segreate things or even think about it but it has come to a point where new users don't give a damn so we have to come down on them with an iron fist. Or something to that extent.

This is actually a really good idea.

Even ten posts in Newbie forum before unlocking the rest would make the mods' jobs a ton easier.

If this were to be implemented, though, I would put it as the bottom line in a sticky. That way it wouldn't matter how many "how do i get out of the newbie forum???????????" posts there are, they'll be forced to read the stickies to find out.

Yeah, some sort of requirement would be awesome. Like, 10 posts in Newbie forum to post outside it, then 50 posts to be able to start a thread.

Don't even CALL it the Newbie Forum (assuming you enforce the ten-post limter). Give it an ambiguous name. That way, people who don't realize that it's a newbie forum won't even get the URGE to go post elsewhere since they don't know there's an elsewhere to post, and people who post once saying "hi guys wuts up!!!!!" then leave won't clutter the forums whatsoever.

Disadvantage - smart people will probably be discouraged from participating in the forums on sight of the average intelligence in the newbie forum. There's probably a way around this, though - put a sticky saying "READ THIS BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE," explaining the situation, for example.
