    Re: Instruments

I've been a flute player for almost 6 years now. I started when I was 11, and would rate myself around a 7

I've also been playing the piccolo, kind of the same as the flute but totally different at the same time, for 4 years. That I would rate myself at around a 4.

One other thing I've tried to committ to was the piano, I just can't do it though.

      Re: Instruments

I've been playing bass for a little over 3 years and have a natural talent for it. I can listen to a riff probably 3-4 times and play it, I Have pretty decent rhythm, and can Slap/Tremelo(Sp?)/Tap very well. I guess I'd rate myself a 6 or 7 on your scale.

I just started playing guitar as well, but chords really get to me. only been playing for 4 months and I'm probably a 3 (Maybe 4, but that's pushing it) because I can finger well due to playing bass.

Just started playing drums, like literally just started about a week ago. 1 or 2.

        Re: Instruments

Back when I was in school, band fulfilled all of my arts credits. I played alto/baritone saxophone and was one of the best at my school and while playing baritone saxophone, we got a I rating at the state level and I also was accepted for a European tour. After that I got bored of the sax and alternated among some of the brass instruments. I mostly played baritone because it was easier for marching band and really got into the trumpet because of jazz music (I read treble clef for the euphonium/baritone so I was able to jump right to the trumpet). After that I did a little bit of marching band drumming but nothing too special.

When I was a junior in high school, however, about 10 years ago, I went into my school's television production classes for broadcasting on our area's public access channel. It completely replaced band and I haven't touched anything since. Having said that, I don't think rating myself would be too relavent. I can still drum a little and I might be able to wing something on the sax, but the brass I used to play would probably be unplayable to me right now.

I play a french horn. I've been playing that for about 2 1/2 years. I'm probably a 4 or so. I've plated the trombone for 5 1/2 years, but havn't played for a while. My teacher said I was his best one, so I guess a five or so. I also play the violin, but am like a 1 or something. I was taught piano, but I play by ear and it takes forever because I can't read piano music. Synthesisers and keybords ar whatever are more fun anyways. I also tried guitar, but am a 1 at that too.

To tell the truth, I don't think any instrument is boring. I think that if you play or modify the song so you can play it, and you like it, It's not boring.

                Re: Instruments

I am basing this scale on that a 6 means you are very good compared at HS standards, as Jursey said.

I found that I learn instruments quickly, but because I got used as a utility player, I was put wherever there was a need, so I never got great at any one instrument. Here is my list, in order of appearance:

                5 Trumpet
                5 French Horn (Bb & F / Double)
                3 Clarinet
                5 Ocarina
                3 Fluegel Horn
                4 Mellophone
                6 Baritone
                3 Flute

Yeah played violin for 3 years and gave that up. Now I can't even read trebel clef. But I have just last year started to play double bass and after about 9 months of it went to a competition to see how good I was. Apparently I'm at a level where no other bass player in a small part of NY is at. Then again how many kids do you see these days playing a double bass? I'd give myself a 4 at the least and a 6.5 at the most.
                  And the pea mocks me.

I play piano and have been playing for almost 11 years (I'm almost 18 now). I would rate myself a 8/10 because last year I got 1st place in the Texas Federation of Music Club's annual All-State competition at TCU in the category "Very Difficult Level II".

Well, Dragula, can you hold up a porn groove on your bass? Those things have mean string skipping, octave, and slap n pops in them. Look up Billy Sheehan. He's a really good bassist.

                          Trumpet-7 or 8
                          French Horn- 7 or 8

I'd be better at horn but switching from mello to horn to mello messes me up >_>

I know how to play some songs only just to listen to it once (godfather, tetris, etc.)

I've been playing alto saxophone for about 4 years. I always play first part in my school's wind ensemble, so I would rate myself about a 5 or 6,

My father brought home a didgeridoo from a business trip to australia, so I've been working on that as well, except I'd give myself about a .5 skillwise

Oh yeah and I have a neighbor who got accepted into Juliard for trumpet a couple years ago, he was also invited to join the Canadian Brass
