    Posting From Nicaragua

Yesterday i think was the longest day of my life. We had to get up at 3 in the morning (i didn't even go to bed) to get to the airport for a 6:30 flight to Atlanta. After we landed in atlanta, they announced they were going to be demolishing an old flight tower. It was crazy... the entire airport came to a halt. All the flight workers were out there, standing on top of their bulldozers, vehicles, etc. just watching it. When the tower came down, the top fell off and the tower just toppled over. It was cool as ****.

Then came the 3 and a half hour flight to Nicaragua.... usually I can sleep on flights, but for some reason I just could not do it. It went by so slowly... they had this flight screen that told you where you were, speed, how long we've been in the air, how far we had to go.... every time i looked up at it, it seemed like only a couple of minutes had gone by. It was agonizing.

So we get to Nicaragua, right... and it's like a hole different world. We're driving along the road with our Nicaraguan driver, and there are tons of people on bikes, walking... I've never seen anything like it. The guy told us that the average salery in the country was something like $58 a month. Quite an eye opening experience, and made me realize how lucky I am to be an American (i personally don't give a **** what you think about america, so rai-rai, all you people who are like "america blows blah blah blah" don't bring that up) It's about a 3 hour drive to the place we were staying, and it was just 3 hours of seeing these little houses, the dogs just roaming the street, the kids riding their bikes. It was crazy.

We finally get to the house, which is in a gated community with security EVERYWHERE, after traveling for about an hour on I think is the worst road I've ever been on. It was like riding a roller coaster, except with potholes. And our driver is freaking crazy so he was driving 60 miles an hour, and our heads are hitting the roof of the truck we were in. At this point I'd gone about 36 hours without sleep, so I wasn't exactly happy, but as soon as we got to the house, I was fine.

But where we are right now is a beautiful spot. We get a great view of the pacific ocean, and i'm going surfing and fishing later 8) I'm here for a week, but hopefully it doesn't go by too slow haha

    Peace

That sounds like an awesome time, traveling inconveniences aside. I really don't know exactly where Nicaragua is geographicall, but I'll check the western coast of SA. Keep us updated on what it's like down there.

The resort must be pretty nice compared with the surroundings. I bet alot of the locals hate tourists. Do it in a bathroom or something...

Are you sure a country like Nicaragua was the best country to pick for a vacation? Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't that one of those poor economy high crime high kidnap rates third world type countries? Unless of course you have family there or something, why didn't you just go to someplace like the Bahamas which im sure is a lot safer and doesn't have things like roads full of potholes and communities that need to have security everywhere like where you are now..
                      You'll never walk alone.

Nicaragua had Manuel Noriega, too. That ****er was ready to kidnap me.

The resort I'm at is very nice. Only problem is the road that the resort is on is probably one of the worst roads I've ever been on. Just pothole after pothole... just 30 miles of dirt road that has potholes that take up the width of the road.

To tell you the truth, I'm really not enjoying it as much as I would like to be. I'm really starting to get sick of not knowing the language, and I'm really tiring of all the stray dogs and cats that just wander the country. And yesterday was just a horrible day and really, I'm just waiting until Saturday until I can get out of this place.

Yesterday, we had to get up at 6:30 for a sailing trip. I'm pretty sure that everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.
                            1. 6:45 AM. My mom gets bitten by a scorpion. We didn't know if it was poisonous or not, but we decided to see how she was feeling later. We start to drive the 2 hours that it takes to get to the dock.
                            2. 8:30 AM. We get to the hotel that runs this sailing thing, and all 10 of us (it's my family and another family) board onto a pickup truck to take us down to the docks. Talk about embracing the Nicaraguan culture.
3: 9:00 AM: We're on the boat, and it's cloudy out. So I didn't really think about putting on sunscreen... if I wasn't going to need it, why bother right? WRONG. There's also a pretty attractive girl on board, but she was really shy, and I tried to make conversation but they didn't really go anywhere.
4: 12:00 Noon. We arrive at this knocked out beach... and finally put on some sunscreen, which of course decides that it's not going to be all too effective today. We caught some fish on the way down, and they cooked and served it to us, but I wasn't hungry so I just gave it to a dog that wandered onto the beach. I felt bad for it, it only had like 1 tooth and didn't look like it had eaten much recently. The crew gave her some water though.
                            5. Late Afternoon: I walk on to the ship, and realize how freaking sunburnt I am. My feet are just dark red, and my shoulders and forehead are really badly burnt.
                            6. 6ish PM: We get back to the hotel... and see that they're doing roadwork on the entrance of the hotel. We're blocked in. We ended up having to wait an hour for them to finish up.
                            7. Nighttime: We're following the other car home, and we're about a mile from the entrance of the resort when our horn just starts blowing, the lights start going on and off, and smoke just pours out of the hood. Our car was on fire. We ended up having to run from the car, carrying all the groceries and crap we had bought on the way home. To make matters worse, my feet were sunburnt as hell, so I'm just in pain running down the street. We ended up having to walk a mile to the entrance, holding a cooler, bags of groceries, and other stuff from the car, and trying to explain to the guard that we needed to use the telephone in broken spanish. We finally get back to the house we're staying in.
                            8. Later that night: I got hammered. Vodka never tasted so good, especially after you just almost died.

3 more days... then I'm out of here. I was in some serious pain today, and at this point all I can do is thank whoever makes Aloe for helping to heal my sunburns.

Hopefully the rest of the trip goes well though
