Get a boot disk, change it to boot from CDROM and reintstall your OS. It seems like your OS is shot, there really isn't a reason for your comp to say that otherwise. Or maybe you could manually reset your bios chip. I don't know if you can do that on laptops though.

        Re: Laptop Go DIE?

If I re-install the OS, I'll lose the stuff on my HD, correct?

EDIT: Thank God... my policy of go to sleep and try in the morning WORKED! Tried this morning, and it booted normally. I am now transferring all 30+ gigs of stuff that I need onto Whorli's external HD, just to be safe.

Dang, my method of fixing things is just kicking it until it works. Surprisingly it does usually work after this process.

You probably had a static issue or something. It happens.

Oh, and guys, if you don't know what you're talking about, don't try to help. Tass could've lost all the stuff on his laptop if you suggested the wrong thing.

Tass, by boot order, it meant what the system looks to to boot first. C:, or whatever your hard drive is designated as, needed to be first. It's normally set to A:, or in some cases some obligatory network sequence. That might've solved the problem. When you were messing with your BIOS settings, you probably disabled something that caused the OS to fail in its initialization.

Yea. I'm not a complete tard, even though I sometimes act like one. I understood the jist of it from reading a few articles via google.

Whatever the reason, it works... for however much longer I need it. Stupid Monarch was supposed to get me my computer 2 weeks ago, but soemthing about a backorder or some crap has it so I still don't have my new hotness yet.
