Hey, so i have been diagnosed with severe life-threatening peanut allergy since i was about 3 year old, and suddenly now it's starting to control my life. About a month ago i was eating a granola bar, like i would normally do, and always have been since i can remember, i looked on the box and it clearly read "CONTAINS WHEAT, SOY, AND TRACES OF PEANUTS AND OTHER NUTS". Now when i read that i had a panic attack, and being home a lone at the time, with an expired epi-pen, i was pretty much ****ed. So i waited the required 15 minutes of time for an initial reaction, and nothing happend, mind you this whole time i was in complete shock. Since that day i have been eating basically nothing, just enough to live. So i decided to seek my allergist and see if i'm still allergic since nothing happend when i ate the granola bars. I went today and got the results, that not only am i still deadly allergic to peanuts, but i'm also deadly allergic to wheat now. So to make things worse it's now narrowed my eating choices even more. I have a new epi pen now, but i am in so much fear of eating anything with peanuts to have to use it. If i do happen to eat peanuts i would go into anaphylactic shock, which means my throat will close up, my tongue will swell and it will suffocate me to death in a matter of minutes. I am never sure if i can't breathe because i am a hypocondriac and i can talk myself into that i can't breathe, so it makes it even harder to tell if i have just eaten a peanut product or not. I am starting to not trust the food that my parents prepare for me, i don't know why, but i have some sort of vision of either some peanut cross-contamination, or somehow a peanut product falling into the food. I have never been like this before and i am not sure what to do about it. I am literally starving myself for no reason at all. How can i get back on track with eating?

Wow, that is the scariest thing ever I've heard, be casreful, but don't think about it to much and you'll be okay. Think beef and garlic thoughts....Comment

Seriously go to the supermarket and buy and make your own food. But don't let this turn into an OCD, you can trust your parents, they're not going to let you die any time soon. And I'm sure they know what you can eat better than you do.

Re: Can't eat..
You realize that you can buy assured peanut-free foods from some specialty health stores if you're in a big enough location. These kinds of foods are handled and processed at a plant that will not allow any form of nut even close to the building, and are likely shipped in trucks that will be always peanut free. It might serve to calm you down.
Though it must be horrible to live with such a condition. Regardless, if you feel you can't eat, drink a lot. Drinks can fill you up just as well as foods. Water is the best to drink.
Also, if it would make you feel better... get a prescription for this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EpiPen as I am sure a doc would have no problem doing so.Last edited by Kles; 06-29-2006, 06:46 PM.Comment

Re: Can't eat..
SEE A PROFESSIONAL, NOT US.
And not an allergist, like you already have, a psychiatrist or something like that so that you aren't so freaked out about food. There's no reason to be this uptight.
Also, you just found out that you have a deadly allergy to wheat? Are you saying you haven't eaten bread or any bread product recently?
Either way, **** you, IgE. I have my many (albeit nonlethal) problems with it, too.
