      Ahaha, I feel honored.

My dog trots around the house and growls at anything it doesnt like. Then it will sit at the door for 15 minutes before my dad gets home from work. Then she goes beserk and flips out until he gives her one of those Dog Jerky things. And then she will go to sleep.

There you have it, the life of my dog

My dogs...well, my family's dogs are treated just like us children. Behave and don't bug the grown-ups, and you get fed good food and have a nice place to live. My aunt's dogs were treated as BETTER than children because she didn't have any...now that she has a baby, her dogs are sad and lonely. But either way, there's a lot of crap to clean up, walks to do and let the dogs out when they need to pee, feeding times are MONSTROUS, etc.

My cats, on the other hand, rule the world. (Seriously. Ask Q.) Frodo is a 25 lb tabby and stalks, catches, and eats pigeons in the backyard. He's HUGE and a big love muffin. Shpitz is my Siamese kitty who never talks, with beautiful blue eyes. He loves to cuddle...but he's old now, almost 10, and likes to sleep a lot too. They're both in California with my parents. Here in Pennsylvania, I have an orange tabby named Corey who thinks he's my shadow. He's (almost) always in the same room as me, and sits as close as possible to me or in my lap whenver he can. He talks ALL THE TIME. My other cat is a little grey thing named Pixel, who is a little more standoffish most of the time but can still cuddle up on HER terms. They amuse themselves all day and night in the house without bothering me too much, and only beg for food a couple of times a day. Cleaning out a litterbox (normal or automatic) is really not that big of a deal. Mostly, I love the fact that they have a bathroom indoors so I never have to get up and take them outside.

Final decision: Cats >>> dogs. Neither I nor Tass want to own a dog (he's upset enough when we babysit his mom's dog) and although Tass doesn't particularly like my cats, that's not a choice he's allowed to make.

I have bad expirience in the dog field of animals. I had a dog named Socket, he had a skin disease so we brought him back. Another dog named Toby, a white and blackish brown fur Colly. Died of a lethal blood clot. I guess it's common in Colly's? Another named Sparky! A cute little Cocker Spaniel. One day I went to go pet him and he went pshyco on everyone. So we had to bring him back. Still not bad enough? A cat named Buster was mentally retarded. So it pooped and peed on the floor and walls. It would poop right outside of the Cat litter which had never changed it's sand. Always was the same brand before the cat became retarded. So we brought him back. Luckily, I have two nice cats now named Drake and Bessy.

              Choose carefully.

Whorli pretty much summed it up. If you have a cat already, chances are something will get neglected. Two pets is too much time and money.

That's not quite what I meant. I personally have 2 cats in this house and have lived with as many as 3 cats and dogs at one time, in one house (albeit a much bigger house than this one and with a very large yard). It's not "too much time and money" if you love and care for them enough to take all their needs into account.

If you're a kid in your parents' home, however, there is nothing you can really do regarding pets that don't have your parents' approval. And often, if there is already a pet at the home, the parents will use it as an example of how their kid DOESN'T take care of/feed/clean/etc. what he's already got, and so will say No to another one, especially one that is so much more high-maintenance (dogs take a LOT more work than cats do).

So, two pets is not too much time and money if you know what you're doing. Four or five in a small house is too much. Forty or fifty (like the little old cat ladies) is DEFINITELY too much. But two--especially if they're friends, regardless of species--can keep each other entertained when you're not there to take care of them and are less likely to engage in destructive activities on your furniture/belongings because they're too busy wrestling.
