RE: Need Suggestions
Sell your cat on e-bay and buy a dog with your own money.
Mom's hate spending their money on things for other people.

RE: Need Suggestions
1) Buy lots and lots of alcohol
2) After realizing you aren't old enough to, get a friend (older) to buy some alcohol
3) Get it from your friend
4) Get your mother, very, very drunk
5) Ask for a dog
6) When she falls over in a coma, take the money out of her purse
7) Go buy the dog, bring it home
8) When she wakes up the next morning with a hangover, tell her that she gave you permission (she won't be able to remember clearly
9) Play more FFR
or you could just be really nice to her >_>Comment

I didn't know he was making real referance to anything, I was under the impression that it was just out of nowhere. And even if I had known, it's not as if I'm not allowed to say anything.Comment

Why do you want a dog?Comment

RE: Re: RE: Need Suggestions
On a serious note, here's a couple of questions that you need to ask yourself:
1) Why do you want a dog? Just to say "yay I have a dog" or do you actually want a dog for the company, loyalty, love, etc. that they give.
2) What's wrong with your cat? Don't like it anymore, got bored? Who's to say you won't get bored of the dog?
3) Are you ACTUALLY going to take care of it? That's the #1 reason most parents refuse to get pets for their kids, because they know that in the end it will be Mom or Dad walking the dog at midnight, or changing the litterbox when it gets full.
3a) For dogs, caretaking includes feeding (1-3 times daily, depending on size, breed, and age), making sure they always have clean, fresh water available (no murky nasty algae-ridden water), making sure they get enough exercise (walking them several times a day and often at night, taking them on hikes, playing in the backyard, etc. NOT just letting them out to hang out in the backyard all day), making sure they always get medical attention immediately when it's needed, and being able to pay for all of these things.
3b) Who will pay the vet bills? If you're still a kid (under 16 and unable to get a job), then your parents will have to do it...and odds are they won't want to. If you think you can pay for the vet bills yourself, imagine the worst-case scenario and have a couple of thousand dollars stashed away for their medical needs. I paid well over $5000 in medical care for two of my cats, and it all came out of my own pocket.
3c) Do you live in a house, apartment, townhouse, etc.? Are you even allowed to have a dog where you live? Do you have a backyard that the dog can play in?
3d) Who will be with the dog all day long when you're at school/work/etc.? Leaving a dog alone all day is cruel and inhumane, and usually results in misbehaving, barking that will piss off the neighbors, and lovely "gifts" implanted in your favorite shoes/on your pillow/under your chair/etc.
4) Has your cat ever even seen a dog? What if they don't get along, or one tries to eat the other? Who will you keep if they fight all the time?
5) Where would you get this hypothetical dog anyway? If you want a certain breed, they're very expensive, not to mention usually inbred and prone to illness/hip problems/etc. depending on the breed and the breeder. I recommend the SPCA or local animal shelter.
6) Who will train your dog? It takes a lot of time and patience to properly teach a dog to react to commands the way you want him to, and if you're going to get frustrated and get mad at him when he doesn't do it right the first 5-10 times, you're not going to be a good trainer. Professional trainers are everywhere, but they are expensive and I bet once again that your mom will not want to deal with that.
All in all, you need to think HARD about exactly WHY you want a dog and how (and by who) it will be properly cared for. Then you need to have a serious discussion with your mother, not a whine-fest of "Mommy let me have a dog" but a well-thought out conversation that includes the answers to the questions I asked above. Maybe if she sees you are serious about this, and will be a good caretaker, she will relent.
However, if she says no even after all this, don't pester her about it forever. Try again next year when you're a little older, or wait until you have your own place and can make your own pet decisions.Goddess of Chocolate Sauce

RE: Re: RE: Need Suggestions
Well, if you want a dog and she said no. There is probably little possibilty you might get one. If you do, get a young one and teach it not to molest your cat. I have experience in this field. I had a small dog (Schitzu) and it was dying. To make my brothers happy, my mom got us a dalmation. It hated the other dog. It would bite it and take its head in her mouth. But everytime we caught her doing this, we would hit her, spray her with water, and at one point, we used a shock collar. ( I still think that was inhumane..)
If she said no, just keep asking her.
1. She'll get you one so you shut the hell up
2. Repeating something really makes ppl mad and they will do anything to shut you up
Say that you really want it.
1. State that you will take care of it
2. State that you will try to uphold it
^ have to work really hard at getting parents to believe this
Explain to her that a dog is cooler than a cat. Say that it could do various things.
1. It can get newspaper, (mine does)
2. It barks when someone it doesn't know comes by
3. Can sense other animals presences
4. They're cool
Hope this helped
And sorry for the long post
