I get the impression guido that he'll have one hand firmly attached to the net all the time.

All I know is that they hit those pucks very very hard. Hopefully that doesnt knock you over. You are definitely at a disadvatage not being able to skate well. Just try not to think about falling down when someone is about to shoot on you.

RE: Re: RE: Well Here Goes

Intramural athletics are overrated. If anything, I'd rather look like a fool who can't skate on a recreational team.

But good luck not making a fool of yourself. Last time I was goalie in soccer I let in so many freaking goals that instead of goalie, I just became a kill-murder-destroy defender who could pick up the ball in the box, and I kicked some serious ass, too.

Too bad, that was soccer and this is hockey :P Although I will tell you, don't be afraid of the ba.. I mean puck.

Make sure you close your legs when someone shoots. Leaving your legs open gives a clear shot between the skates.

                  I really like that comparison.

And good luck buddy. You're only like, the most important person on the team. Sure, they may say "There is no 'I' in 'team'" but there is an "I" in Goalie.

I beat up my teams goalie, when he was complaing that the offence did not do anything but he LET in 13 goals. The coach dident really care to.

                        Our record was like 3-10.

The most difficult thing goalies might have to do is catch/block a speeding puck in their hands/glove. Not only is it hard to catch it since it is in flight, but it is also coming at a high speed in which the force could actaully make you lose your balance. happened to me once. Just be able to close ur knees very well. Usually, seeing a puck come at your nutsack at 50 mph kinda creats an instinct reaction to close ur knees and fall down immediately. If ur able to do that, ur able to do pretty much anything else.

I would have to agree that the goalie is the most important position. before the new NHL rules this year, the goalie could theoritically take his team to the playoffs by himself. So ya, no pressure..........at least it's intramural

Couple things to say... I've been playing ice and roller hockey for several years now... With that aside...

Intramural? Yeah... Don't worry about any tough competition... There might be some good players, but not THAT good...

As for Esupin's comment about closing your legs... Don't do that... That shot is called a G-Hole shot, and rarely anyone ever shoots for that area... plus you always want to keep your legs seperate and knees bend for quick movements...

As for skating ability... It kinda leans either way... Compared to a center or defenseman, the goalie's skating skill doesn't have to be as good... And with all the extra weight from the extra padding and gear, not like the goalie is meant to move far distances quickly anyways... So you should be fine...

And Dancingmaniac... I 'lol'ed at your comment on 'fast moving pucks at 50 mph'... 50 MPH!? Maybe a wrist shot... Cuz if you're talking about 50 MPH slap shots, what team were you playing for? IceHockey Special Olympics? HA

But seriously... I think you'll do just fine... As long as you focus your attention on where you're standing, what players are open, and where the puck is, you'll be fine As long as you're having fun, that's all that matters... And yeah... Fill us in on how your games go
