The director of the film recently wrote an op-ed describing her take on the backlash and her background and experience. I haven't seen the movie, but I definitely think the reception would have been different if it were not released on Netflix.

By the way since so many people here and online keep talking from their ass about something they haven't even seen let me break it out to you, this is an accurate documentary of how many girls specially from the lower classes behave and try to mimic adults. Yes, the message seems to be very confusing and the ending doesn't seem to tie all the loose ends but this is getting more hate than it should, not every film needs to be an educational piece when discussing social issues.

And i don't think big mouth is bad, either. Not sure about your position on this choof but if people want to bury their head in the sand and pretend early teens don't discover sexuality or don't have sexual experiences and think talking about it is taboo then we're probably going backwards.
