the community in general was super sociable, we played minecraft had our own server with starcraft iirc, and irc games, and generally lots of smo. Actually the scoreboards was the most active portion of the site really! We played so much, and posted so many scores
irc games
#kbo as a community still exists, just as a discord channel that I administrate and chat in the most.
funny enough, the name of the "kbo" community has nothing to do with keybeat as a game, but we kept the namesake since this was where the vast majority of users met, lol.

Think of butt herpes, but in a playable format. I for the longest time didn't even know it was a thing, so needless to say out of frustration keyboard #1 didn't make it.
Might want to mention 0 and 1 frame jacks too lmao. Game play in the 03-04 era was super archaic.

It may be interesting to walk through the FFR/SM timeline and discuss some of the top tier players and how their role affected the community/game play. I wasn't specifically active on the forums back in 04-05 time frame, but I'm sure Hi19 or other veterans could comment more on each of the individuals listed below roles in the community.
Names that come to mind for early FFR gods would be (Shashakiro, Dynam0, xxxsmittyxxx, BahamutX)
I'm probably leaving a few names off the list, but just off the top of my head those players were substantially ahead of everyone else at the time. As odd as it sounds I remember watching a video of Shashakiro play "Get Down" at school I assume, and getting two goods. [Link to Vid for nostalgia reasons :P https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P37KaWlty50 ] From then on I was convinced that skill level was obtainable and the scores this group was setting were legit. Also shout out to screen cutting and having to use the numpad for spread LOL.
SM list: The community should expand on this as I'm not as well versed with the grouping for this era of play, but I believe these are some of the earlier SM players (Thaor, Wooke, IzzySM, BahamutX, and Dynam0 again)
Thaor - Ridiculous MA and speed for his time. I essentially s*** myself the first time I saw his St. Scarhand video. Mind you some of his scores are still really good 10+yrs later.
Wooke - Vibro God and comparable speed to Thaor
IzzySM - Crazy good MA
BahamutX - Similar caliber to Dynam0 at the time? Really good speed with very precise MA. If your a fan of key taps go watch some of his old vids
Dynam0 - While I guess never obtaining rank 1, maybe the most consistent top tier player of all time? Has always had good MA/speed. Likely came out of the womb with a keyboard? We may never know.
Re: Stepmania/ffr history thread (input/help wanted!)
I've been going through some of this and...
...There's a post I made in one of the linked threads that I made that doesn't sound like me at all. I must've been pretty pissed because it got edit out and everything (also got an infraction for it).
Re: Stepmania/ffr history thread (input/help wanted!)
i wonder if anyone has that big ass satirical history post that was on ffr with giga sweden and zaghurim taking his first bath, would be a great copy paste to have here xD
Would anyone be interested in seeing recordings of older files no longer playable in game? Maybe some secret home key song, widget thing, or perhaps april fools joke? If so, do you have any that interest you the most?
speaking of history we could talk about the two mass ban events that occurred on FFR haha
tbh my favorite stepmania sites were always ODI, BX and KBO. While ODI was a cesspool of nutsack froders based on harassment and bullying lots of funny shit happened and the simfiles from that place are timeless.

Speaking of harassment, i showed vent my new shoes at the time and jchin went through my photobucket with the link and found my gf's nudes. So i had to deal with "ya gfs tits" for quite some time.
Vent was a great time and i wasn't even part of the main group.
