You're trying to convince someone who thinks it's perfectly fine to say the N word with a hard er that a term is offensive. Assigning words negative stigma only empowers those who use it in an offensive way.

People took a racist word, and it's now used in a house hold cleaning product.

For reference:




Rappers have taken the N word and made a derivative, and use it as a form of empowerment, and brotherhood, a symbol of unity, a positive word. They use it in music, and sell it for a $1.30 on Itunes. People who partake in the entertainment medium, use it when referring to their friends.

It's not fine for me to say someone is "my *****" when they'd say it about me. That's silly. Talk about a double standard.

Dis-empowering a word is the correct reaction, not censoring it. Not trying to erase it.

It can be offensive to you. That's fine. But to me, it's just not. It's something that's there and it does have a place.

But let's flip this for the sake of argument.

As far as I know, and I fully admit I am probably very ignorant here, and that this is not the argument being made, I see the word "cis" thrown around a lot. From my understanding it's the way to say someone's gender identity matches with their birth gender.

How is saying someone is a "cis white male" any better than saying someone is a hermaphrodite? Or, how about how is it any better than saying a person of darker skin is a negro. That rabbit hole only gets worse with things like "mansplaining" and the like.

Hopefully that example makes sense. I'm not trying to say it's exactly the same. I'm merely pointing out that there's a lot of double standards in language right now in what most would call "pc culture."

This is just me though. It's a topic I do like to explore though.

I am highly lacking in social skills, this isn't something I'd debate with anyone. Though, the rest of that post is pretty much me explaining why I feel it's fine. I fully comprehend that saying it in public is like asking for someone to kick my ass.

However, it doesn't make me a bigot. That is not how that word works definition wise.

There is no degree of intolerance. I made it a point to phrase that post as an open ended, you have what you think and I have what I think, and that's fine. I'm not hard sold into my ways to a point where I cannot be changed. I'm not blindly accepting my opinions as fact.

Also, if your argument to lump me as a bigot is based on the fact the N word has a background of hate associated with it, you really need to read my other post carefully. I feel it covers this. But to summarize: I feel the power of the word is gone, given that the derivative is used in such an open manner with immensely dense double standards.
