Perceived unhelpfulness, on the other hand, would be better left to a private message from a forum mod, if anything. (Just my opinion.)
I disagree. In the same way that you're saying the avatar/signature categories can be eye-opening to the winner, so can ones about behavior (perceived unfriendliness and unhelpfulness). And the analogous response of. "Oh, people don't like my behavior? Guess I might want to change it." can be elicited, in a different way than if just one moderator sent a private message.

Good point. I'm not a fan of the public-humiliation-style approach, but I can't say I don't think it could be effective. Just not something I would want to see, personally.
Re: FFR Forum Awards 2014 - Adding/Removing/Changing Categories
Possibly an entirely new category for most prolific/active posters under certain boards on the forum. For example:
Most Prolific/Active Poster in Brag Board
Most Prolific/Active Poster in Chit Chat
Most Prolific/Active Poster in Critical Thinking
Most Prolific/Active Poster in Stepmania
Most Prolific/Active Poster in The Garbage Bin
etc.
I can see this getting highly redundant easily, but I feel like the award "Biggest Postwhore" just doesn't entirely give equal opportunity to people since a vast majority only post or pay attention to select forum boards. I mean, who actually clicks "New Posts" or "Latest Forum Posts" and reads every single thread on a daily basis? Other than that, people could just check the top overall posters thingy and randomly choose someone from there if they don't necessarily keep track of who's posting all the time and everywhere.
In retrospect, this could also be applied to "Most/Least Helpful" and "Most/Least Friendly" categories, which then becomes pointless, so I'm not really too sure.

Re: FFR Forum Awards 2014 - Adding/Removing/Changing Categories
Best FFR File from 2014
Always wanted to see this expanded a little
Maybe split into:
Most technically impressive file
Most new/innovative file
Most enjoyable and replayable file
"Best" is generally a pretty nebulous term.
And we could have a small number of categories that capture the various aspects of "best" like technical ability, creativity, good music, replayability, that kind of thing.
