I bite my nails from time to time and it's usually to the point where it takes off skin with it in the corners. (worry) But I'm more concerned about my skin picking and my inability to stop doing it...
Dunno what to tell you man. There are people who could see bad nail biting as a red flag, but I doubt anybody is like actually looking at those things so.. there's more important things.
I've never had a problem with nail biting, but my brother did when he was 16 or so. It was BAD. The skin around his nails was torn and raw, and he'd always get infections. Most habits are a pain in the butt to get rid of. I don't think you're in any immediate danger, but if you can, when you can, pay attention to yourself; you can kick it.
I have bitten finger nails plus the skin around them for as long as I can remember. The occasional infections or slight cuts are a minor sore, but the habit can be regarded as unsavory by some.
I have tried Bitex, mittens and other methods to quit biting, but to no avail. Frankly, I do not see it as an important problem anymore. I have a great girlfriend and job and have never noticed any obvious handicap to biting nails in reaching any goal in life. Just try to keep your hands and nails clean, both to reduce chance of infections and to avoid grossing people out by being unhygienic.
Other than that, I wouldn't worry too much. Judging by your picture, you don't even have such a bad case of nail + skin biting.
