Kanye's definitely a great producer and his first album was decent at best, but everything after that went downhill quick.

Kanye is a god-tier producer, one of the best out there by far

Unfortunately from a vox standpoint, his head slowly pushed up into his ass over time

I like his ability to alt-pronounce words and find rhymes where a uniform pronunciation wouldn't allow them

this seems to be a very popular opinion on the internet, but I don't get it. I find his rapping skillz to be average and the production (done by Ryan Lewis right?) to be very nice

I prefer Kanye's subject matter and wordplay to those of most other popular rappers. I mean "popular" as in, like, top 10 in record sales. it's not a high standard, imo, but it's still a standard. also ridic producer

                  Re: Rap discussion thread

^this album is a classic.. i hope im not the only person here who knows about Kool Keith

^ Kool Keith aka Dr.Octagon with dan the automator on the beats. the whole Dr.Octagon album is worth checking out

^ nobody else in this thread can touch keiths flow

and here for honorable mention just because i dig his shit is Del tha funkee homsapien aka Deltron 3030. dan the automator did the beats for 3030 too. deltron 3030 is an album you should definitely check out.

                  ^ classic song

both sides of the brain is a great album too

and of fucking course, BIG L

^ probably my favorite and most inspiring rapper in terms of how he flows. i love how he keeps goin on the same rhyme and ends with a nice punch. this guy is proof that what kommisar said about good rap not being about violence and gangs just isnt true. not to mention that the beats are all fuckin sick

the measure of what makes rap good isnt really the subject of the songs, its the beats and the freshness of the rapper. a lot of good rap has come from the streets where violence is just a part of life. if your shit aint fresh and coming from somewhere real then you aint a good rapper.

lotta foreign "rappers" get put to shame by american black men (who are the best rappers) the thought of a korean rapper makes me laugh. just like a lot of music, rap is an american phenomenon that came from the black community.

^ this album is the shit, gotta bump that old school triple six. sonngs sound best with some good heavy bass

                  now im high, really high
                  ridin in tha chevy
                  time for da juice man
                  playa hataz
                  walk up to yo house

"walk up to ya house knock on yo door and blow yo ass off"

another great rap album about nothing but drugs crime sex and violence

pretty much anything you hear on the radio is commercial garbage. i wouldnt even call kaye west a rapper.

                    Re: Rap discussion thread

the dudes from camp lo and ghostface killah might be my favorite rappers of all time but i actually always tend to think of this stuff more in terms of albums. my top 5 -right now- is probably:
                    beastie boys - paul's boutique
camp lo - uptown saturday night
the pharcyde - bizarre ride II the pharcyde
slum village - fantastic vol. 1
nas - illmatic (this is probably my favorite of all time, yea yea)

                    uhh some other great albums:
                    madvillain - madvillainy
kool g rap and dj polo - wanted: dead or alive (as well as live and let die)
notorious b.i.g. - ready to die
                    jay-z - reasonable doubt
                    goodie m.o.b. - soul food
