Looking for a new pair of headphones

Like the title says, I'm in need of some new headphones. Preferably over-ear. I'm a little low on cash right now, so I'm trying to get the best bang for my buck.

Do any of you have any good suggestions?

I've been looking around and seen a few that keep cropping up as good-for-you-money decisions, such as:

    Sennheiser HD-280 Pro - http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones/s...-30235462.html

    Grado SR60i - http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones/g...-33801804.html

    Sony MDR-XB500 - http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones/s...-33577185.html

I've also looked at the Skullcandy Crushers. yeah, I know they're Skullcandy and probably not worth my money, but. Still.

    So, yeah. Any suggestions?

Re: Looking for a new pair of headphones

People are gonna HATE me for posting this, buuuut I have been happy with these:

    Bose

    I'd say go for those.

    EDIT:

After looking at the three you posted, I feel like in the end its a matter of personal preference. For 100(ish) dollars you are going to get the same-ish quality.

      ATH-m50

Hands down the best headphones for the money. Look into em, only around $120 and AWESOME sounding. With a good sound card, you will get a shiver when listening to flacs with these babez I've got a "crystalizer" Sound Blaster XFI card.

Best headphones I've used for the money~ only reason the bose $700 ones were much better is because there was a slightly more sharpened, broader spectrum of frequencies in focus cleanly. You get a very good quality nonetheless with the m50s, I feel like i'm hearing guitar get played live with em. High freqs are so prickly~

      These ones are $121 w/ free shipping. : >

Re: Looking for a new pair of headphones

To sum up the 3 headphones that you posted really briefly (in my opinion):

HD280 - Pros: Sturdy, good isolation
Cons: Lacks bass punch, sounds 'crunched'

SR60 - Pros: Very engaging, forward mids, comfortable
Cons: Not neutral at all, slightly lacks bass quantity

XB500 - Pros: Heavy bass (Could be a con), super comfy
        Cons: Muffled/muddy, V-shape frequency response

One commonly recommended headphone for that price range is the Audio Technica ATH-M50. Have a look at those too.

        Edit: Please don't get Bose...

Yeah, I looked into the M50's. They actually looked really nice. I'll definitely have to give those a look again.

EDIT: What's the difference between the M50's and the M30's or M35's? I assuming there's definitely a sound difference, but how big of one?

iirc, the M30 is the same thing as the M35 sonically.
In short, it is worth the price difference in almost every aspect: detail, soundstage, timbre, FR, etc.
How big of a difference depends on how good your ears are huehue

They aren't 'bad' per se; they're just priced higher than they should be. There are a lot of headphones that can easily out-perform them in every aspect in the same price range, yet they continue to thrive in sales all thanks to their great marketing team.
A more extreme case of this is Beats (I'm not going to go into detail with this, but you get the idea).
                  BUT
Bose's noise-cancelling functionality is second to none. They really know how to make them work.

I use Beats By Dre Studio Headphones. They're alright. They're good for standard use (listening to music and playing games). One major downfall is they're more expensive than than what they should really be worth. Another downfall is they use two AAA batteries that drain within less than a week because of how much they would get used (and also what if you leave the headphones turned on by accident, then you're just wasting the battery). Oh well, I got them as a Christmas gift a couple years ago and they lasted me, so I can't complain that much, I guess.

I've actually heard really bad things about the Beats. I didn't even consider those because of what I've heard and they're out of my price range.

sony extra bass headphones, OMG this is nothing but benefit

looks like it's saying no longer available but these headphones are the shit
p.s. it's not just the bass that rocks (it's not distorted or w/e but it's smooth as fuuuuck) it's the quality in general..damn these are badass

I listen to music through my phone or use them with my 3DS or laptop on long car/plane rides. For me, the sound quality of Bose was amazing. I just recently replaced my in ear ones after 5 years of use. They still work just fine, it's just the cord is open and the wires are exposed in a couple places from bunching them up too much over those years. I think the price is fine for how much use I got out of them.

                            That's great to hear
Quality and price shouldn't matter as long as one's satisfied with their purchase.
