are you trying to keep it under $100? if so, i've heard good things about the grados SR60i. maybe try those out. if you're willing to spend more, i'd also have to recommend the m50's. i just picked up a pair myself and i love them. found some on amazon for $109 with free shipping

      Beats / Soul / anything endorsed by a hip-hop mogul = SHIT.

I'd go for the Grado SR60i, probably the best out of the 3 you posted.
Or you could go for these: http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-HDJ-50.../dp/B0047QTLVC
I'm a bit partial to Pioneer because I have all Pioneer audio in my car and it sounds awesome. :P

Audio Technica ATH-M50s, like Spenner said

perfectly flat frequency response for cheap

literally the respected studio monitor headphones in 90% of all studios in America. Perfect sound, durable, slick design, coiled wire to keep from rolling a computer chair over it etc

        Edit:
If not the audio technicas, still avoid sony at all costs

Hands down the best headphones for the money. Look into em, only around $120 and AWESOME sounding.
I have ATH-m50's and I 100% agree with this. Seriously, these things are amazing quality for their price. The only minor complaint I might have is that they can feel a bit squeezy on your head after a couple of hours, but that's most likely because I'm used to my Sennheiser HD-515's that rest on my head with comfortable padding. I forget they're there sometimes.

That's pretty much the only complaints I've heard about them too-- or to someone who thinks "the bass isn't punchy enough" that hasn't bothered to play with their computer's EQ.

The tightness gets worked in after awhile, and if it's starting to become bothersome just pushing in around the foam on the ear cups until it softens (brand new they can be a little stiff).

welcome to the club of ath-m50 users :') i think you'll find you've made a good decision.

couple it with a sound interface and or built-in audio card of higher quality and high quality audio (flac is my prefered format) and you'll have a great time discovering and re-discovering audio.

HD280 - Pros: Sturdy, good isolation
Cons: Lacks bass punch, sounds 'crunched'

SR60 - Pros: Very engaging, forward mids, comfortable
Cons: Not neutral at all, slightly lacks bass quantity

XB500 - Pros: Heavy bass (Could be a con), super comfy
                        Cons: Muffled/muddy, V-shape frequency response

One commonly recommended headphone for that price range is the Audio Technica ATH-M50. Have a look at those too.

                        Edit: Please don't get Bose...
                        What's wrong with a v-shaped freq?

It's super V-shaped so the overpowering bass bleeds into the mids, making the mids virtually non-existent.
You can EQ stuff, but EQing can only go so far.

I wouldn't say it's bad in general and in fact I would say it's preferred on some occasions because of its fun sound (HD25-1 ii :'D). It's just in this case, it's not the good kind.
