it's not like her other threads weren't serious. She just doesn't come back to them for days.

ie. she's not a ****ing forum-tard like the rest of us.

      Re: Depression

Unfortunately depression medication isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Having been diagnosed with a malabsorption disease I want to solely blame my nutritional lack for my depression of 12 years. I'm not depressed right now, so I may be right.

True depression should be treated as a symptom, not a diagnosis. It tends to be longterm, it in fact IS a symptom for a number of problems, and lastly it's far too comorbid with other diseases, especially other generally unexplained ones like fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.

A professional who diagnoses you with depression bases the diagnosis specifically on what you tell them. There's no blood or brain test etc. for it. So you could easily diagnose yourself provided you know the official guidelines for it. Guidelines differ depending on whether you're in North America or Europe. Of course, if you want any sort of help for it in any aspect of your life you better have a professional diagnose you.

Being depressed or even just feeling sad or hopeless or antisocial isn't anything to be ashamed about though

Different things will help different people cope.

Though I'd rather call it a disability or a handicap rather than a symptom. If you suffer from chronic depression it really is a disability/handicap.

          Re: Depression

I agree that it's disabling, but clearly the current approach to treating depression as a separate, individual thing is not working, and I at least, have had doctors overlook pretty common, known reasons for depression. And no one bothered to look for the less common ones.

I'd just rather not pump my body with more medicine to balance my unbalanced hormones. That shit doesn't work half the time anyway and the side effects are shite.

              Re: Depression

I swear I got mini seizures when I went off an anti-depressant I had been on for a few months. Also I couldn't stop crying over the slightest things. I felt like an emotional 2 year old. It really sucks when stopping a drug has a far stronger effect than taking it in the first place.

                Re: Depression

I went off a tiny amount of celexa that had "turned me into a zombie" from what my mom had said at the time.. My head felt like I was floating in gas and every time I moved my head down or up it felt like my brain was moving with it. I slowly got my emotions back and turned really agressive and angry about everything. It was hard to adjust to society again because of it, but I think finally 5 years later I have gotten the hang of controlling it.

I just realised and clicked the thread to apologize, but still this link is very relevant and will greatly help those who are suffering with depression.
                      I'm trying to be helpful.
