You can expect more of these leading up to the peak time in March 2013. The sun is steadily becoming more active until that date. Hopefully even in Toronto I'll be able to snag a photo of the auroras.

So I did a bit of research and came across a few great links that can help you pinpoint if you have a good chance of spotting auroras -at any given day-.

Link 1: Discover if you can see an Aurora in a certain time period

You are supplied with a 3 day scale a 3-hour Planetary Kp-index. Use it to see if you have a possibility to see an aurora. This link is updated every 15 minutes. Keep in mind that the Kp scale here is also displayed on the links below - in order to see an aurora, the reading -must- be greater than or equal to the number of the links below. So if you have a Kp = 5 for one night, only people above the line that says Kp = 5 will have a chance at seeing these. I say chance because clouds may ruin the show, etc.

Link 2: North America map, who in North America can see an Aurora?

You are shown the map above, but if you click the link, and then click an approximation of where you are located, or just a place you are interested in, a dialog box will appear containing the latitude, longitude, and adjusted magnetic placement; if you are in North America, you are magnetically further north than you are geographically placed, increasing your chance of seeing auroras.

Link 3: Eurasia map, who in Eurasia can see an Aurora?
