Right? The fact that it eventually learns characters it guesses wrong on enough is pretty much the coolest thing ever. Given another decade or so it won't even be fair. The breadth of its database is impressive too. It tends to guess pretty obscure real-life artists, painters, and writers accurately. Even when it doesn't it gets close in creepy ways.

The amount of mlp fanon/oc characters it knows is astounding xD

From asking 20 questions it can effectively eliminate over 1 million possibilities or 2^20. If you take away the probability factor and just look at it as yes or no questions than it is cutting the possible results in half after each question, or as close as it can. Once it cuts the results in half 20 times over it returns the result with the highest popularity.

But it is actually way more complicated than that and I'm not entirely sure how it works other than that.

Yo, one time Detrimentalist fed Akinator enough times that I eventually ended up in the database, rofl. I doubt it's still listed though cuz it's been a long ass time but it was hilarious as **** to see my username pop up after a few tries.

If anyone isn't aware yet the website builds from user entries to create it's own database

The more people enter obscure stuff, the more likely akinator will learn to guess it. Algorithm-wise I leave it to you cs-types to figure it out xd

Maybe it's because I'm playing the Japanese version, but it asks me the most obscure questions, like if the girl has big breasts TWICE IN A ROW.
The first time it asked, he had a straight face, but when second time came around, he had this weird pervy smile spread across his face (or maybe I'm just exaggerating it).

Anyways, 5 out of 10 right. Cool find.

picking 'yes' or 'no' repeatedly used to force it to guess "guy who says yes all the time" or "guy who says no all the time." picking 'i don't know' repeatedly still leads to "the one about whom nothing is known"

Wow. After 30 some-odd questions and very many wrong guesses it figured out the actor on tv i referred to was actually the wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin.
But I already knew who it was so I win.

Yeah, this has been around for a while, but it's entertaining to do it every now and then.

Also, it failed to guess Corgi (dog of Rin from BG video of DJ MAX song "Now a New Day"), but to be fair, that's pretty obscure.
