Valve Announces Left 4 Dead 2
    June 1, 2009, 12:05 pm - Valve - Press Release
Sequel to Best-Selling Co-op Thriller Coming This Holiday

June 1, 2009 - Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2), the sequel to the best-selling and critically-acclaimed co-operative multiplayer thriller.

Coming exclusively to Xbox 360 and PC, L4D2 promises to set a new benchmark for co-operative action games and become one of 2009's marquee titles.

"A large part of how Left 4 Dead became 2008's top-selling new IP on Xbox 360 and the PC was the custom-tailored gameplay made possible by the AI Director," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "With the knowledge gained from creating the original, new technology, and a passionate team, L4D2 will set a new benchmark for cooperative action games."

Set for release on November 17, the title adds melee combat to enable deeper co-operative gameplay, with items such as a chainsaw, frying pan, axe, baseball bat, and more.

Introducing the AI Director 2.0, L4D's dynamic gameplay is taken to the next level by giving the Director the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players' performance. The result is a unique game session custom fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played.

Featuring new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a much larger game than the original with more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, and maps for Survival mode available at launch.

Supported by a $10+ million marketing campaign, Left 4 Dead has sold over 2.5 million retail copies since it was released in November of 2008. Left 4 Dead 2 is targeted for release on Xbox 360 and the PC on November 17, 2009, and will be launched worldwide with a multi-million dollar marketing campaign across TV, Outdoor, and Online.

"Left 4 Dead was backed by our most aggressive advertising campaign to date, and resulted in a top 5 showing on two platforms during holiday 2008," said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve. "Left 4 Dead 2 is a larger game and will be supported with even more consumer and retail advertising programs than the original."

Left 4 Dead 2 will be featured as the cover story on PC Gamer and Official Xbox Magazines this month.
They also announced a flame thrower :P

I don't feel like four campaigns was worth my $50. I'm pretty sure I'll be waiting until a half-off sale, or something close to that.

          This is ****ing bollocks.

Improve on the first Left 4 Dead before bringing out another one you stupid ****ing ****s.

The only move they can make now is make it an Add-On for L4D or DLC.

          But I highly doubt that.

I used to love valve, but now they're just ****s.

I spent £35 preordering L4D and I've probably played it maybe 10 hours.

Turtle Rock Studios fired all of the people who originally worked on the game, part of me doesn't want to get the game because that's a pretty douche move(they did it so they didn't have to pay the originals more money). But the not-caring part of me says, **** it, this game looks awesome.

Not to sound like a hater or anything but i played this game like 10 times (the first one not two) and i don't get what i big appeal is about it i like a game that needs some cooperative elements but if anything gets you, you are completely helpless, so you get pinned your basically dead, i like having to make your team makes help but when between you and their help is 50 zombies, 5 tanks, and a bunch of other stuff it is ridiculous, it might have just been the people i was playing with or something -.- ( I am talking about survival mode im not even going to mention the "campaign" it was so easy on the hardest difficulty it was not even funny)

Loved the first, no matter how "bare" people say it is. I'll pay the $60 for L4D2 on release day.

Had enough fun with the first to get this one as well. Although I'd much rather prefer they'd have worked on an patch or update for the first one.

I'm in a similar situation to this. I just don't have the money to buy it flat out. I'll be happy when 2 comes out because then 1 will probably go way down in price.

This VERY much interests me. Not only will the A.I. director be able to control hordes, special zombies, and such, but also the weather and other live objects? Oh, boy.

                          "50 zombies, 5 tanks"

There can't be any more than 1 tank at one time. And a normal horde which IS like 50 zombies, is easy to fend off if you actually know how to play FPS games :].

Yeah I'm not getting this game.
Get Killing Floor instead. My friend bought it and said it's way better than L4D. Along with like, 5000 other people too.

Plus it's hard to find people on steam from Europe who aren't foreign who are good at FPS games and will play with you .

killingfloor is nice, but buy it only after you have completed left 4 dead cause killingfloor requieres some zombie basics like kiting, wave cancelling and team working. Killingfloor is alot harder, i started on beginner and i have yet to finish a long campaign at normal after playing 4 days.

This pisses me off because I brought Left 4 dead on the last sale. Especially when value said they would be updating normal left 4 dead as much as them do TF2. What a load of rubbish. Just a bunch of money making by a few tweaks and a new skin. It could of been several l4d updates. Boy I will sure look forward to l4d3 in 2010. 4 campaigns each game plus splitting your online user base between two games, nice.
