I believe it's mostly because they are removing the core PS2 chip which made it almost fully backwards compatible. Now the new consoles, like the European ones will have full software emulation for PS1 and PS2 games and will have more backwards compatibility issues. Maybe it is worth the price drop though.

That happened before europes PS3 release so they had already had them by then, I'm pretty sure it's just so they can salvage some money out of their slow sales.

Right now they are denying it but it's obviouslly because they want people to still buy expensive ps3's the weeks before they announce it at E3.

I don't think i will buy one yet still though. If it gets around 360 premium price then I may consider it.

The elite is just black really, as at the end of stock all premiums will come with the bigger hard drive anyway.

Although I prefer the colour black to white.

the rumor has already been denied by sony (i dont have link right now)
anyway the deny could be for 1 obvious reason ..
sony does not want ps3 sales drop to 0 for week(s) while ppl wait for the price drop
the price drop imo is inevitable though .. sooner or later it will come

I'm still glad my friend bought a PS3. If I have any game I want to play on the PS3, I'll have a console to play it on without actually buying it.

I'm actually glad now that I waited out buying a PS3 or Wii yet. $499 for the 60GB is starting to sound like a winner and add that with the games coming out this fall, I think I've made my choice.

Still not $300. Still don't want it.

So far, there's only one game on 360/PS3 that I'm even remotely interested in, and it's Rock Band. I can just buy a Core 360 when the price drops to $200-$250 and I'll be all set.

I bought my PS3 a few weeks ago when Best Buy was having a deal where if you got a new HD TV, you get 300 off a PS3, a blu ray movie, and a game (I got motor storm). Beats the hell out of the current price drop.

Yeah, yeah, I know, people are going to say "But the TV costs a **** load." But, because of all the points we've saved up on various credit cards, we got it for free.

PS-Super Rubadub is quite, quite fun as well, not to mention competitive.

If the PS3 drops by $100 then i've recently just lost $100.

The cheap little games that PS3 has for download only are actually very very amusing. They all take advantage of the PS3's built in motion sensor thing (Haha I don't even know what it's called...). Fl0w and Super Rubabub are perfect examples of this.

If the PS3 price does drop and they get some good PS3 only titles i'll probably buy my own and stop using (stealing) my cousins all the time.
