Following up on the report that the PLAYSTATION 3 would see a $100 price cut taking place the week after E3 2007, GameDaily has confirmed with "a merchandising manager at one of the world's biggest retailers" that the 60 GB version of the PS3 will indeed drop to $499, starting on July 12, one day after Sony's E3 press conference. GameDaily also reports that the new price is indeed indicative a retail-wide price drop, not a Circuit City specific sale, as a handful of speculators have posited.

Re: PS3 Price Drop?
Yes, the color and bigger hard drive are nice, but statistically the word elite is a little high for a product like that, especially since it matches most specs with the lower end package for the 360.
Ps3 was originally loosing money by selling the consoles, in hopes of making a very large profit in accessories and games, this is a huge surprise.Comment

Re: PS3 Price Drop?
I believe it's mostly because they are removing the core PS2 chip which made it almost fully backwards compatible. Now the new consoles, like the European ones will have full software emulation for PS1 and PS2 games and will have more backwards compatibility issues. Maybe it is worth the price drop though.Comment

Re: PS3 Price Drop?
Now i heard that it was because they doubled their factory size which made it more cost effective to build parts (blue ray disk in particular i believe). Then again, i have no idea how reliable my resources are =\

Re: PS3 Price Drop?
It would definitely be a hilarious publicity stunt even if they did only keep the lowered price for like a week or something.

Huge LAWL
I'd save up for a PS3 but I haven't seen any games that seem like they'd really blow me away. Xbox, really don't want one. Don't even know why.Status: Innactive Onehander
