I'm at the Chapter 4 final boss and just... ugh I think I'm either really under leveled or the difficulty spike is just... ridiculous. I've been discouraged and haven't touched the game for like 3 days now. ;_;
Hard mode is just.. hard. Sometimes you have to be really agressive with buffing, debuffing and healing.
I find that once you have enough hp to not be 1 shot by their aoe then you are about the right level. This is generally 10-15 higher for hard. Later on I had to have double max HP on my healer from a skill point so I could always recover absurd aoe crits.
I was still never able to beat the keystone dragons normally without overlevleing by 20 levels which I wasn't interested in doing at the time. I ended up making every character a ninja and exploiting the counter + bp gain red mage talent and the ninja ability that allows me to always evade 1 attack. So I would evade, counter, gain a bp, attack and add guaranteed evade again then repeat. Makes you invincible against most things.
Edit: I need to work on beating all these nemesis things now. Some of these bosses are apparently level 80 so it could be pretty hard.
As usual with most modern game releases, I haven't really been interested in the game itself.
But the soundtrack is beyond godly. Incredible music...
Asterisk boss theme is great, but strangely my favorite piece is actually the trailer song, such an orgasmic electric violin sound. (The Accolades Trailer to be specific)
Got level 14 for every job on every character. Time to knock out some of these level 99 nemsis bosses in Norende. Also need to go find every single item possible to 100% the journal. Including genome abilities and compounding.
That is what I did for beating for the level 99 boss. I also had Tiz with freelancer and all jobs maxed so he had 23,000 hp plus a shield and massive defense.
I've been grinding in this game way too much. Auto, speeding up battles and +100% random encounter means I can watch a show and grind at the same time. I'm going to beat it today probably and I'll post my thoughts when I'm done. It's definitely fun but I have some issues.
So the battle system is really fun and I felt compelled to do everything I could in the game. Put a total of 66 hours into it so that has to count for something. That being said, the second half of the game is an absolute grind and not in a good way. The voice acting is not very good and I honestly felt cheated through the second half. Towards the end I really just wanted to get it over with and finish it. I can't really go into any more detail without spoiling anything but given the hype I would say I'm disappointed. Still a good game and the gameplay is interesting and deep enough to keep you going until you finish but the game is way too long for what it is.
Technically most of the game past chapter 5 is optional. I played the game with Japanese audio so I don't know about the English voice acting. The Japanese voice acting however seemed to have all the right emotions and emphasis in the right places.
I like games that you have to work at to beat. This is one of the best rpg's I've played in a long time.
I'm not saying the game was bad but the entire second half of the game was almost the same exact thing over and over again. The only variety was in boss groupings and some extra character development that didn't really have an impact. Running through the same dungeons, fighting the same bosses, seeing the same environments...it ruined the momentum the game had for me. I thought it was great up until that point. But like I said the battle system was fun enough to get me through it.
Pretty much done with the demo. Is it cool if I add you guys to help the whole town rebuilding process along? Plan on getting the full game tomorrow so if that's cool, that would be greatly appreciated. Really having a lot of fun with it so I'm really looking forward to getting into the meat of everything.
