    ATTN: Scoring System Needed

As you may or may not know, I am currently heading a super secret theme project which will essentially be a complete redesign of StepMania for keyboard play.

    Anyways, right to the point.

I'm sure many of you are familiar with the scoring system that StepMania uses. That is, the DP system and the machine score. Obviously, because of the DP system, AA's are waaay too common compared to A's and AAA's. AAAA's are pretty elusive as well. As you can see, there is a problem with the balance issue. Machine scoring is similar too. We need a balanced system. We don't need all those digits and machine score is almost completely dependent on MA if the CBs are even remotely similar.

If any of you play Pop'n, IIDX, or Technika, I'm looking for a scoring system similar to theirs, but fits StepMania's purposes.

I don't want just random numbers. If you're gonna suggest something, make sure you have good reasoning or solid mathematics to show why your system would be suitable. I am willing to provide any information that I have currently.

Working on a fundamental scoring system that provides a simpler, more effective mathematical judge based on accuracy.

      If that works...

I.E. I'm not keen to the various judges of Stepmania and I'm not familiar with IIDX, Pop'n or any other scoring system so I'm trying to design a scoring system independent of any current systems since I can't really be biased except for what you want in function to SM.

I don't think score should be abolished, but something that isn't so heavily oriented on CBs should be prospected. The point of rhythm games is to tap to the music, not how hard you can smash and not break combos
Why would you put that in your signature? You've lost your signature rights for a month. (You'll get them back on March 10th, 2012.)

Why not start with a test system similar to that used by Kommisar in the official SM tourney on ODI from like 6-8 months ago?

That's no where near a perfect system, but it might at least help you figure out what does and doesn't work

I'd say use BeatMania's system, or FFR's system.

ffr system is freaking horrible are you kidding

COMPLETELY based on combo and only combo

also this should be geared more towards cbs, not ma, because it doesn't matter how accurately you're hitting the note as long as it's in time and you're feeling the chart. that's how iidx and pop'n work

Which is why I think Beatmania's system is more suitable. Though if you don't want the accuracy to matter, you should give a low number of rankings for hitting each note. Miss, Good, Perfect.

                              How about a combo multiplier?
Like every note hit adds x% to the points you earn per note hit (different for the timing windows), but capped once you hit a certain combo (probably also based on a percentage from the total amount of notes in the song)

I'd say that would put a focus on CBs and maintain a reasonable amount of importance for timing. Although I get the feeling that it would be hard to implement.

If I could make but one suggestion away from the current DDR/SM scoring system, please don't carry over the progressive score increase. I hope I'm not the only one who thought making notes hit worth more as the song progressed is a bad idea.
