    Sync Techniques

I opened this thread to share our synching techniques.

Mine is to have calculator in hand. I start to record some beats in 1/64 (green arrows) and then I compare this quantity of steps with the beats marked, making a proportion and calculating it in the calculator.

I just get the right BPM and then put the correct arrows down. Simple, I know. Stepping in 64th (which is green, by the way) may not sync you correctly every time anyway.

      Re: Sync Techniques

I don't step cool songs. I step highly generic things that have no changes in the BPM whatsoever, then I use mixmeister.

oh wait, now I see why I haven't made a good file yet though the pokerap was pretty cool

          I use this: http://www.all8.com/tools/bpm.htm

Then I round to the nearest whole number.

Then I put in a bunch of quarter notes in the file and press F11/12 with F4 on until it sounds right.

Then I put quarter notes through the entire thing and tweak the bpm until it's just right.

Sometimes I have to tweak the gap afterwards too depending on how much I have to change the bpm.

For dynamic bpms... I stop stepping the file 1/4 of the way through because I'm lazy.

Also, mixmeister sucks and is never right don't use it.

i use a tap along bpm finder

do it like 5 times on a song then get the average out of the 5 bpms that i got

it is right for songs that are completely static and at a very easily findable bpm, IMO (aka something that is a multiple of 10)

I use DDREAM Studio. Best program I've used thus far to sync.

I use mixmeister; I think it's only gotten the bpm wrong for me once, and it was on a weird song (which I don't even think is constant bpm now)

                      Re: Sync Techniques

For skittle notes and for finding the exact beat offset I'll slow things down to about .3x the normal song speed. Doesn't sound that slow, but it seems more like 1/20th ^_^. You can also notice pitch differences easier that way.

This is slightly off-topic: The last time I tried to step my song w/ DDReam Studio it would crash when I tried to save. It didn't do this all the time, but it did it enough. I ended up having to finish the rest of the file in just the SM editor (oh my God that's horrible, right?).

EDIT: I might as well poke in something that's on-topic.
I use the aforementioned http://www.all8.com/tools/bpm.htm to find BPMs. I would use my physical metronome, but I lost the little bastard.
