    Re: New drawing/coloring tool

Hey, now I can do the color association that I wanted to do in my Gravity Blast solo chart for KBO. Thanks, qq.

Yup. Some people who play associate the colors with the timing, like me. If I see a run of red and blue notes I expect it to keep a certain rhythm. Unless someone is color blind, there is importance to the colors. This could be used to screw with someone, but for the most part it helps with accuracy. A lot beginner pad players will get confused with all kinds of colors too.

It's not just technical, it helps with timing coordination for some. And if you know a song should be played straight but the notes are a 192nd off forsome stupid reason, then just color it and the person will probably have an easier time hitting it, especially if they know the song.

Colors help me with timing coordination, so I see no reason to change colors to anything else.

Yea, I think so too, but take the song Cliffs of Dover for example. The song is not a consistent BPM at all, but the patterns are there. The song is so fresh in most people's minds that changing the color of a note that's gray due to being very slightly off wouldn't affect the player, because they know what the song sounds like, and they're used to the groove of it. Only reason I would use it, and I guess the color theory to express certain parts.

This is actually good for Xmod work too. If you want to slow down a part of a song half as much while keeping the 4ths and 8ths you could use the coloring tool. It would have to be used correctly though.

I also think there should be a surefire way to detect a "colored" file from another. Now that people may use this people who lead packs really have to consider files that use this tool. It should be known beforehand before one assumes the file IS synced and that the player themselves are just having a hard time (especially for fast songs).

To make a point, this could be an excuse for people who don't know how to sync to get away with files. So there should be a way to enter the something in the file to make it obvious it used this tool, and not just something that can be edited out easily.

Nope, you can't do that. This coloring tool works by adding enough BPM changes to give each note the color you want. The Stepmania file format doesn't support arbitrarily changing the color of a note - the only way to do it is to put it at a different rhythm than it should be, and then change the BPMs around so that it still hits the receptors at the right time.

A huge number of BPM changes is pretty obvious

Just making sure, it wouldn't occur to some people who judge or review files to play on Xmods, so I was wondering if there was an easier way. Either way good work, thanks for the reply too.

Also don't forget some Kil and Don files. I originally picked up colour theory from a few Kil files (False Merchen, Marine Drive, Schroedinger's Cat, and others) before adapting it into my own style/usage.

You just don't get this kind of artistic expression. Colour theory is just another way to emphasize and distinguish different sounds, moods and what not
