    Re: Stepmania editor problem

I never used ddream. I've had no problem with the SM editor whatsoever and in fact have been using it my entire stepcharting life. It works perfectly fine. I never bother with those with inconsistent BPMs much anyways.

I've only stepped one song in my life and ddream is the only thing that made it bearable. It's also the only non-buggy way to step 6key charts anymore.

MrStepmaniac,a friend of mine, has been stepping for years, mostly from bemanistyle. He's never used ddream, but he's mostly a pad stepper, so it makes sense. But yea, a lot of pad steppers, especially vets, never found the need to use ddream I guess.

here are my reasons to use ddream over stepmania:
          1) starts up in constant time no matter how many songs you have
          2) can be used to edit any song on your hard drive without having to move it into stepmania then reloading stepmania
          3) waveform graphical representation makes sync and setting offsets SUPER SUPER SUPER EASY and intuitive
          4) NO DELAYS between editing and playtesting - in stepmania it's a 2sec+ delay every time I want to switch
          5) mouse control, scrolling/clicking/adjusting/clicking and dragging/etc

like holy shit. I didn't think it would be worth changing, I proved myself soooo wrong

give it a go, just remember the 'A' button for setting stepmania style bpm and offset. if you need to sync a nonconstant bpm part turn it to sync mode, play it on a low rate and tap b to the beat, make sure the first and last beat are on time then shift+click+drag select all beats and hit 'g' for grow. this will smooth it out so it's a constant bpm, and since it has the right start and end and the right number of beats it'll auto give the right bpm

I was the SAME way -- w_c would always tell me about how much better it was and I was always anti-DDream; I can't go back, now.

Meh, as long as Stepmania does what I want it to then I'm fine. I'm sticking with the editor, people loves my files, I still finish the files in 1 or 2 hours with it if I went and worked on the file nonstop.

                ddr_f4n, I am you

I also think I can crank out files in 1-2 hours and that everyone will enjoy them no matter what I do, but then I tried swapping to ddream anyway

I got even faster and more efficient at it

                just try it

I'll use it when I actually feel like it. Got too much crap to go on atm to try to actually learn it. Like I said, I'm sticking with the normal editor :P

                      Re: Stepmania editor problem

There's not a whole lot to "learn." Compared to the SM editor it's as intuitive as breathing, and even though I've only ever stepped one song, I can honestly say I probably wouldn't have finished even that if I didn't find ddream.

I know you've said you're not interested like 4 times already, and probably want everyone pestering you to kindly fu*k off, but it really does justify this kind of enthusiasm. Who_cares is right, you probably wont understand the size of the favour you'd be doing for yourself until you actually use it. It's not going to magically and perfectly step all of your shit for you, but it's a MUCH nicer environment to do it yourself in.

                        Re: Stepmania editor problem

I find it more cumbersome that you're using an external program than to use the in-game editor which you can easily switch to the game mode on the fly and all.

Just out of curiousity though, does ddream allow rolls placements and bgvideos with options that OpenITG has?

I don't understand the OpenITG options you mean, but it does allow rolls and even lifts. Everything a regular editor has, including all the styles of DDR and PIU.

You know like crossfade, slideleft, videowithbg, Kaleidoscope, etc etc. Those kinds of video transitions and effects.
