the 2 "best" styles for 2 handed play are either just your index fingers, or the 4 finger style that Nima and most 4 finger players use.
That doesn't mean it's the best style for you though... I've heard of other playing styles that work just fine, as long as it's something you're comfortable with. The main thing is to find something that's most comfortable for you and stick with it. The only thing I'd suggest is to stay away from use of your ring finger if you want to do really high level songs. Ring fingers tend to be less strong/agile/whatever and can be a hindrance if you need to move it REALLY fast. That's one of the obstacles that 1 handers face...
But anyway, you should take volkov's advice, there are other people that can give you much better advice than I just did I'm sure.Reach: there was this bee. i hate bee\'s...i tryed to kill it, but then it didn\'t die and it started making weird noises so i was like oh (#$% hes gonna sting me. i started running but i triped over some rock and rolled down a hill into the river.Comment

that's odd.. my ring finger is faster than my pointer and I play one handed.. the only hinderance (imo) for a one hander is that your middle finger has to cover 2 keys, up and down.
that's why I always give people the finger, to make the finger faster XDAfrobean16 (8:58:05 PM): you're evil incarnateComment

Reach plays every style. :P
And people, there's only three ways to play :
1. One handed, three fingers, on the arrows
2. Indexes on arrows/numpad
3. Four fingers
Stop making up all these retarded ways to play, they make you suck.Comment

Yes...I think my advice about playing really hard stepfiles constantly is fairly reliable...It only took me like 4 months of that to reach the level of play that arch0wl was at.Originally posted by altairianTake Reach's advice.
I've been playing bemani games for like, 6 months, and I'm already pretty darned good at SM if I do say so myself, thanks to Reach
The important thing is to go with what's comfortable for you. 1 hand is harder, but it's not impossible. If you get uber l33t like reach with 1 hand you'll have 1 forearm be like 2 inches bigger around than the other O_O
And yea...By the time you can play caprice, asb, snow, vanish 2, ice climber, k8107 and cynic in a row without failing...1 handed...the arm you use tends to be bigger than the other XD

Reach didn't you play 2 middles and 1 index when you did most of your 2 handed accomplishments? (note that's THREE fingersOriginally posted by MoogyReach plays every style. :P

Okay, I tried two hands for about a week, and I'm finding a lot of songs that I used to not even come close to passing passable now...so I think I'll stick with two hands.
Now the main problem I have is speed...for instance, in the standard ASb steps, I can do just fine through the quick doubles and LRLRLRLRLR streams and such, but when it gets near the middle and the LUULUURDDRDD stuff, my hands get confused
.
I can handle 8th notes at 225 BPM easily (Run the Place Red heavy), but if it gets much faster than that I start having problems.
I'm starting to think that when the arrows get too fast, you can't really just read them any more...you have to see the pattern and be able to do it with your fingers. I can do stuff like LDURLDURLDUR and RUDLRUDLRUDL, but if it gets mixed up like LDURUDLDURUDL, my hands get confused again.Comment

No, arrows are always readable. You just need good hand-eye coordination and lots of practice.Comment

Yes...lol. And sometimes the use of the 'reach method'. Depends on the style of the song, and if there were alot of turns.Originally posted by altairianReach didn't you play 2 middles and 1 index when you did most of your 2 handed accomplishments?
