    SM's Downfall

So I've come up with a theory as to what Stepmania's downfall is going to be... And that downfall is going to be songpacks... Everybody's going to end up making their own songpacks to release for the hell of it, but every song pack is just going to have the same songs that another pack has... And all the packs are going to be of all the new/popular stepfiles, and all the old stepfiles are just going to be forgotten about... And when someone thinks they have 10K songs or something, in all actuallity, they only have maybe 6K, cuz the rest are just the same songs carried over from pack to pack... Just my theory... :P

So to sum it up... "OH! New songpack #2 by 1337SMguy was just released!!! 70 songs!!!... Oh... Darn... Same songs that DDRHeaven89, xXSMFr34kXx, and Moogy had in their packs... ~Sigh~... Well... At least it shows that I have more songs total to brag about! Woot!!!1!"

But this is why I'm glad there are packs like F4 and F5, because you're guaranteed to get songs that are unreleased and are a total fresh flock of files...

    Yep... That's my rant :P

well, i dont think people need to stop making packs, just see what packs are already out, and make something new. I would make more new ones, but i dont normally have the time to make the stepfiles, and it takes 30 mins to load songs to the site on my computer

No. Because if packs suck, nobody will download them. If they do, they'll delete them when they find out they're packs of crap. If they're n00bs and they don't know the difference, well, we really don't care =D

People should make packs because they are filtered.

What I mean is that most of the sims on BMS are absolute garbage. By making packs, at least SOMEONE has thought it was good. And packs are great for SMO too.

Stepmania's downfall would be more like someone else releases something better than Stepmania.

                    rofl no.

I can't believe someone would do this and make a profit. This person must be super retarded and hasn't noticed Stepmania or thought we would be even more retarded to buy this.

EDIT: So alright I downloaded it. The only feature I like is that it states what BPM it is. It might be off by .01 - .10 though. The timing on this thing was either so small or was horrible. The steps they used are randomly generated and does not fit to the song at all. I noticed this because I played though a song and notes were still flying through the air during the times with no sound.

                    Overall gay. Duh.

No one good actually plays SM anymore. Eggman and Nima do but they REALLY REALLY REALLY don't count.

tsutter plays occasionally. Reach plays every now and then. Everyone else good has quit. Pretty soon no one good will play Stepmania at all.

I don't know why I ever played SM to begin with. It's just a boring piece of garbage compared to IIDX or any other music game.

IIDX gets much more boring than SM does. The very limited selection of songs on each style, meaning songs with both good charts and good music, is a major flaw in the game. In 9th style alone, out of the 88 songs, there is only about 15 of them I truely enjoy both playing and listening to. Stepmania, once over the hump of pad to keyboard files, has a much broader range of songs to play with, and ranging difficulties and even the style in which the steps are layed out add a much breater replay value to the game.

Both games, however, can get repetitive after long term playing. Stepmania changed from the challenge being to pass songs to trying to AA/AAA/Combo harder and harder songs. IIDX, for me, is still in the state where I'm still trying to get better at harder stuff, rather than my timing.

One thing about stepmania that I enjoy over IIDX is the intensity it will get to. In IIDX, the hardest song available on CS would be One More Lovely another. Yes, it is hard, its 200 bpm 16th notes. As for stepmania, songs are much faster in speed, and I find doing songs like Strangeprogram's 215 bpm 16th notes to be much more fun than Ghost Revival's 148 bpm 16th scales stream on IIDX.

As for IIDX, The one thing it has that Stepmania will never have for me is 1 handed playing. In IIDX, it's actually fun, and not too hard to get down. I can progress at a fairly steady rate, and I'm still trying to work on 16ths and triple note patterns. Personal opinion, but I think that playing 1 handed in Stepmania once you cross over to the keyboard section of the game is far too much button mashing, and it is too hard to go back to very easy files and progress from there. It's like playing from Heavy and moving back down to beginner on DDR.

As much as I used to worship these two games, it tool me quite awhile to realize that both are very simple concept games. And as addicting as they are, they all get old. Just as I'm sure that all of us who play DDR for a long time quit, or moved to In The Groove, or simply play on occasion, this will happen to both IIDX and Stepmania. Eventually we will all get bored of it, because once you master the game, there really isnt too much left to do. This is why I think the good people leave.

If all the good players quit... Then maybe one day I'll be the next Nima... Or then again maybe not
