In order to participate in the beta testing of the server, you will need to obtain our compiled test version of Stepmania. The install can be found at http://userpages.umbc.edu/~lohr1/Ste...01-23-2005.exe. Download it and install, do not install over your existing stepmania directory. Install to a new test stepmania directory.
You must understand that SMOnline is currently buggy and unstable in some cases. Although I do believe that SMOnline is currently more stable than the current release of SMLAN, it is important to realize that the final public release of SMOnline will be better and more stable than it is currently. Please don't comment to the public on how buggy SMOnline maybe.
Test Songs
Beta testing will use arcade 6th through 8th mixes. If you don't have them, please download them from BT. You are welcome to have more songs. But no promises that others will have them too.
Beta Server
The server address is currently 68.55.154.47
It will be up 24/7
Connecting to the beta server
The connection procedure for the beta server and SMOnline is the same as SMLAN.
Options->Network Options->Connect
You MUST be playing with a profile for SMOnline. Your profile name must be the same as your forum name.
Proceed to game play the same way you do with SMLAN. When you are prompted for your password, enter your password, it’s the same as the forum password.
Navigating
Navigating is the same as SMLAN. Remember CTRL+Enter executes what you have selected.
Navigation in the song selection has changed slightly. Left and right scrolls through songs. Up enters the option screen. Down cycles through difficulty levels.
Reporting Errors
Please report errors in this “Beta Testing” forum. Create a new topic for every report. Also post your positive/negitive feedback. DO NOT send error and bug reports to the Stepmania developers.
One more note
Since I want the final server to be able to function under all kinds of conditions. Feel free to TRY to make the server crash, so I can find the bugs. You will know it has crashed when your connection is dropped and further connection attempts fail.
