    Re: Ranking System?

Here's what I'm getting from that:

    Player1 scores a full flawless.
The score must persist for x amount of time. Until then, everyone's full flawless scores are placed under him.
The very moment after x amount of time passes, a full flawless score surpasses Player1 in the rankings.

Is this right? Because I don't agree with this.

      Re: Ranking System?

Wait whoops I totally thought this was FFR-based wow I'm dumb

I REALLY doubt more than 25 ppl will attain a perfect score on anything so I still think the first person to flawless something should be on top. The amount of files in stepmania that have more than just 20 AAAAs are quite small and are mostly pad/index charts. The most quadded "spread-only" file to my knowledge is something like Zag's Another Planet and you'd be pushing it to say over 20 ppl have quadded it

Eh I can see how some super easy songs would get annoying for that though...maybe keep the player who gets flawless first on the bottom just for consistency sake. Even if they flawless again maybe have a parentheses system that counts the amount of times they attain flawless?

Seems like a reasonable idea, but on another hand the same problem exists for people who would whore easy charts. If they can full flawless many easy charts, there's no reason they won't do it for a particular song over and over again until their full flawless count is unreasonably high for newer players to compete with.

But it's definitely a good enough suggestion to keep in mind.

I didn't imply that the person who gets flawless the most times on one song should be on top, only that it could be an interesting thing to have beside the user's name. The most recent player to get flawless for their first time would be shown on top

            Re: Ranking System?

Okay, here's my take on this. However, the feasibility of my suggestion vastly depends on how you want to structure the ranking pages.

One option could be that if something like ridic timing is running, then flawless scores could be then ranked looking at who was more accurate. Just like Osu! does with the gold SSS judgement.

Another option, which in my opinion would be far less frustrating for players (not being able to attain a really flawless score ever could get on the nerves of many) is keeping the current FFR system. You get on top once you get the perfect score. One way to give credit to the first person getting a perfect score is highlight their name in a slightly different color.

Yet another idea is to have "seasons", where for each season - something like 6 months - it is recorded who got the top score on a certain song. With time, you could see the progression between different seasons.

Recording the number of times someone attained the top score is also fun, imo. Having more information, as long as it's kept in a page of its own is always good.

                    Re: Ranking System?

EDIT: This is all assuming you want to show some rankings within the game itself

I like mi40s idea of randomizing tied ratings.

Or if you want, shuffle single listings like this:

                    Song X (first playthrough)

                    1. stargroup
                    2. mollo
                    3. dynam0
                    ...
                    956. Kraezymann

Then I decide I want to play through again to better my score, but so many people have played that a few are many ties for the ranks. So randomize the rankings with different names

                    Song X (second playthrough)

                    1. Kommisar
                    2. Arch0wl
                    3. Fission
                    ...
                    946. Kraezymann (woohoo ten ranks!)

You can keep the list small in the window that way (only ranks 1-10 plus the user), and maybe have a dedicated leaderboards page for people who want to see the full rankings for the song sorted only by date from earliest to latest.

                      Re: Ranking System?

There are a couple of problems with randomized ranks.

Firstly, it creates unnecessary work for the program. Instead of just sliding the score into the ranks, now you have to resort them.
Secondly, it doesn't provide as much information as the current proposed method. In the current method, you can clearly tell who got their scores when, but all of that information is lost upon randomizing the rankings.
Last but not least, it doesn't quite make sense for players to sporadically slide up and down ranks when there is no updated activity from them. Any change to the leaderboards should have reasoning behind it.
