    To hate your own file

Considering how normal hating another author's file while liking your own, have you ever considered the reverse? When I played some of my old charts, I go 'DA FUQ WERE YOU THINKING, DOOD?!' even if its something decent like Mirage Garden.

    Is this normal?

I AM ASHAMED OF MY STUPIDITY AND MUST COMMIT SEPPUKU. FORGIVE ME, FFR.

Oh yeah. I'm no where near a "known" or "decent" step artist, but I do that all the time. Even on files where there's nothing "really" wrong with it, I know that I could of done different better things.

I dislike my own files unless they are ~flawless gems~, basically it's because when you're making it you remember all the reasons for why you did everything, yet when you come back to it there are lots of gaps in your recollection and every gap makes you recoil a bit just because you don't remember why. so it's a cognitive flaw and you have to ignore it

I rarely play my own files on FFR for a similar reason. I don't necessarily hate my own files, but I'm not overly fond of many of them either. I also get some sort of narcissistic feel when I play my own files, so I tend to not play them at all.

I hate most of my files. I like most of my song choices though.

both my old files + song choices didn't appeal to many people, and my first file for Stepmania is in midare 5. I still have trouble finding good songs to step though :/

Re: To hate your own file

fun fact, I have never once stepped a single file I was truly proud of. I will always find something in my files that I would do differently later or slap myself in the face wondering what the **** I was thinking, especially on the older ones

actually I lied, donations please is the one and only file of mine that I wouldn't change a single thing about. that file encompasses everything about me

at the time I create them, I enjoy my files quite a bit

later on I find them boring, but mistakes don't really bother me much since I make files as I feel they should be.

I only ever hated one file and that was miracle matter

I've never created a good chart. That mindset only sticks to stepping though. I can always play my course files, especially the old ones and tell myself "that was genius."

                          It's normal.

Re: To hate your own file

after i'm done blowing through with a simfile's steps, i play it and I'm like "why the hell did I do this" but I'm too lazy to fix it lol

i usually choose songs that haven't been stepped yet, with few exceptions that were already in progress, and I don't have to make that comparison to other simfiles.

in general when I see other simfiles, it's usually shit like modded courses, FG changes and lua tricks that I'd like to do

or that I wished I knew how to do a long time ago :P
