Mirror Mode

I looked for a thread about this but couldn't find one. I would love if FFR had a mirror mode similar to that of SM. This would balance songs that are right-hand-biased or left-hand-biased. Though it might be really hard to include, I'm just throwing it out as an idea. It would help out a lot.

i know not the same, but in SM i can pass some songs with mirror on because everything is right handed.
and i'm not.
it would be cool.

and it's not like it changes the score or anything. so, why not.

seriously, this game needs mirror mode. we already have speedmods and practically took out avmisses, along with autofail. these give us ENORMOUS advantages over people that played with avmisses and screenshrink until mid '07. mirror mode would just be another noteworthy commodity.

I always wondered why Stepmania even offered this selection. Mirror mode seems like total garbage to me. It's like "Hey, I can't perform this left-handed trill because I'm right handed, so, even though plenty of right-handed people who have trouble with it got good enough to do it anyway, I'm not going to." Just seems unfair. Stepfiles are written the way they are for a reason, changing them around to your advantage seems cheap to me.

No offense, Ledwix, or anybody else, but this doesn't seem fair =/

EDIT: Before "well what about people who got good without speed mods / with avmisses" even comes up XD Speed mods aren't changing the structure of the level in any way, you are still playing it exactly the same. Every note is in the same place, etc. As for avmiss, =/

and it's not fair either, that when making a simfile, people think of themselves. most of the population is right handed and it's not fair to leftys. so, mirror it for leftys would be like making it the original stepfile we all play. we don't need it though, since we kick butt with right handed stuff anyways, i would just like to use it.

Mirror mode would be insanely easy to add to this game. It would take hardly any time, and would allow another way of practicing. Maybe even changing the Mod on the high score list to Mirror on/off.

Mirror mode is largely based on getting rid of bad habits, though, Yukari. It's not as much of a way to overcome certain hand-biased steps. If we had mirror mode I could AAA EHHS easily, but with the current system, and with the habits I've developed from playing FFR, I would seriously avmiss EVERY SINGLE TIME at the 24ths. It's time for FFR to allow getting rid of bad habits to read a clean set of steps as an option.

After all, the same logic you used can be applied quite conveniently to screenshrinking vs. speedmods. "Oh, these players have worked hard for the last 2 years trying to perfect the art of screenshrinking, but I don't want to have to overcome that; therefore, I'll ask for speedmods to alleviate the entire process." Since everyone seems to have welcomed speedmods as the art of screenshrinking has died, why not implement mirror mode? They're both parts of SM already.

I realized you already addressed speedmods, but lack of avmisses completely overrides the most fundamental difference between SM and FFR. It's an ENORMOUS change, much larger than any mirror mode would be.
