ffr on newgrounds (?? or other flash websites)

always wondered why this wasn't done, maybe it's something to do with the subtle wording of song permissions (??) but i think it would be a good idea. newgrounds has a player that converts flash over to html5, and it's been seeing a resurgence as of late. (in this exact genre, in fact!!!) so this might be cool

anyway, hope things are well! love you all...

Ontop of the song permissions stuff that could be an issue, the flash to html5 converters don't support all games. iirc FFR is not supported because it uses resources from the database which isn't supported by the converters.

Goldstinger talked about it on the discord not being supported in #dev-chitchat on February 10th of this year

        summary from a different thread.

Unfortunately, this game is not single player, and has functioning multiplayer, and communicates with multiple databases with the website. It's going to take a lot more than just converting to html5 to fix the way the game works.

Also worth mentioning that the html approach is relatively easily extended to a desktop environment too, via electron + CEF. This approach has its problem, but would probably be the simplest approach to a downloadable client.

This is basically the cusp of the issue. To have it go anywhere requires a rewrite of the client into a different language, and 100% of the work is volunteer. No one's paid for it, or cares enough to deal with the pain and rummage through the rat nest of what is decompile AS3 code made from as early as 2006.

It's not like anyone hasn't attempted to put in man hours towards the goal either, see: https://github.com/flashflashrevolution/rrr

Velocity did a test in 2020, but the R^3 engine was a long way out, and Ruffle didn't support any AS3 and some uncommon AS2 features at the time.

But it had decent AS1/2 coverage, so the Legacy and Velocity engines have a better shot of being supported, lol.
