Re: Methods of spreading FFR popularity

I do this everyday on a daily basis: Go to school, when lunch starts, go to the computer rooms. Sit quietly, plug in headphones, eat lunch, play FFR. People look over and are like "No way." Time passes. The people then keep watching you, but do not ask about the game still. They get the idea that they can play the game because watching you makes it look so easy. And then, you have converted someone to FFR without saying a single word!
Congrats. (This is a slow process)

Technically that's true, but I find that in practice it doesn't really work. Every time I tell someone about this website or show someone my replays, I always get told that the lag is terrible. In my opinion, Standalone has become a necessity.

I've also tried pretty hard to get Velo to work on a -running- Facebook embedded preview app that would only have a few songs from each difficulty, to get people interested. We need to get darkshark to whip up a kickass advertising commercial sequence ;P

Edit: (meant to elaborate more on FB app)
He admitted to me that he didn't have a whole lot of knowledge about how facebook runs their apps, nor how to go about getting one up in that manner on FB.

This is very dangerous fact actually. Most people don't know about the standalone or how to get it to operate correctly (new people, I should say). =S
And until BW is up and running, it'll be a piece of information that few will get to know of.

Even IF we got people interested, it'll be quite a pain to have to explain to each individual how to use standalone unless they use flash 8 or 9, or 11 doesn't make FFR lag for them.

I think I could set up an FFR application on facebook with a few songs from each difficulty, and it would be the legacy engine. I've seen someone put an .swf of FFR into an app before, but it was lightdarkness's engine.

Facebook's application system is garbage. No one would be able to play properly on it if there was an engine. lol

It's laggy as molasses in a snowstorm uphill.. I know my computer is a horrible piece of garbage, but I can run Flash games, and even the facebook games run at like 15FPS if that on my computer. lol

edit: i.e. we probably COULD draw a crowd on Facebook, but they might get discouraged if all they get are averages and goods because the system facebook uses is laggy.

                  edit2:
YES, I remember the Come Play with Us! Links, That's not how I got here, but I remember them.

Re: Methods of spreading FFR popularity

The FFR Kongregate App drew a fair amount of attention, and I guess Tass' "FFR is down. The game won't load because of that." message probably isn't helping.
Just introduce FFRlite into a few high traffic gaming websites (say miniclip, kongregate, newgrounds) to draw users in. Then add a "Join the community, we have awesome shiz!!one11!1" message on the engine.

                      How hard can it be?

Thing is, I don't think it's all that hard, we only need to put up a game on Kongregate that has demo like qualities (Which, is the hard part, because I don't know much AS2, or even AS3, so I can't do it, let alone get the flash files.), which one of the devs here have to make (Which brings us to possible laziness.), and then upload it to Kongregate, probably even get them to feature it on the front page as "Return of FFR!" or something like that.

But, then again this is all just from my outside logic of flash games/kongregate, and me probing into things, but not actually being a part of the developing world. So what I say could be 100% wrong. We definitely need Velo's, Zaggy's, and maybe even Tass's input on this.

edit: It's not "impossible" if Tass did it, It's just either too hard, or annoying and too time taking to even bother with for people to do.

I personally think it needs better music to get more people. I understand alot of songs are hard to get permission for but all my friends who have seen me play usually make fun of the asian sounds here and there or the weird beeping. Most people don't like rap but if we got more rap that would be good, especially rap songs beginners can play. More rock songs with more mainstream bands like avenged sevenfold, system of a down, slipknot, three days grace and anything in between would help too. Even if you don't agree with my taste I know a tremendous amount of people who like that kind of music it's the same everywhere.

But they would already think they sucked because they have never played before.
