Well personally, I use Vista, and it works fine, no lag at all...yet everyones hating on it and stuff...meh..
discuss
It's different per computer, my laptop I can play songs fine, except for really crammed together stuff, I failed strangeprogram because it started lagging so bad in the streams -_-
Though on my desktop here, probably about 1 out of every 5 tries I'll AAA excite bike. It's really random with PA.
No XP computer in general has this lag problem we all here about so often on vista.
While I like Vista, the fact that I can't play FFR makes it worse. Vista could have every single detail better than XP, but if I can't play FFR I'd still choose XP over it.
Ever since I switched to Vista, I cant PA for crap on my XP. So I honestly like Vista better. People juts need to get it through their head that it is not Vista itself, it is what you do to your computer that makes it lag and everything. Also, never use IE on Vista. IE I found to be a load of crap browser and that FF is way better to browse and play on.
So it is fine for people to like XP better, just stop fricken hating on Vista for no reason because it is not horrible. If people like me can do as well as I do on Vista and few others can as well, then you are the ones doing something wrong to your Vista to be screwing it up.

If every single detail is better, FFR would be more playable as well.

I recently bought a vista laptop, with better specs than my normal xp desktop. Base score of 5.2, almost everything a 5.8 except for hard disk space (500 gb :/), which was the 5.2. It still lags.
Don't generalize vista as a good OS. And don't act like people don't know what they're doing.
It may run well on some computers, but on most computers it doesn't.

1. It takes up way more resources just to start up, keep running and it uses additional CPU to keep monitoring itself.
2. Lots of bull**** features you don't want or need.
3. It's a pain in the ass to disable some features.
4. Vista is alot less stable than XP. (The second time I rebooted, I already had to use system restore, and I didnt even do anything besides upgrading via the microsoft website.)
5. Vista conflicts alot with some of the programs I used to be able to run perfectly on XP.
Just because it works well for you, doesn't mean it's a good OS.

This is a pretty ignorant statement.
I have good computer knowledge, and I know what I'm doing when modifying settings. It still won't run as good as XP.
I have modified all settings of Vista to use as little resources possible. Like removing the sidebar, changing the theme to basic, etc. etc. And it still runs like crap when I try to play FFR or SM. It reduced the lag alot, but it still has alot of lag skips.
Don't try to justify Vista by saying it runs good for you. For alot of people it does not.
PS. Vista might be good once they fix it, but for now it's a pos in my eyes. They released it too soon.
Now for a valid post,
I have 8gb of ram. 2.66ghz pentium d processor on my laptop.
I've been using Vista for awhile. I don't completely despise it. I find the graphics pretty cool actually.
I just find that the performance of certain programs are obsolete. Take Flash 8 for example.
When I want to input actionscript, it literally takes forever to write/cut/paste.
This is a minor problem. But it shows some definite lack in performance.
I generally don't have issues with lag. But that's cause my computer is better than yours.
But the fact that XP could operate with crappier specs to more or less the same extent shows something.
Most of you may think you don't have lag, but really you can have some.
On my macbook, gif's and stuff are faster then on my XP desktop, like kommisar's siggy is supper slow on my desktop, but FFR runs perfect. On my mac, kommi's siggy is the speed it should be but FFR is laggy.
There's an easy way to make FFR run smoothly, and make sure it's running smoothly.
Turn colour quality down to 8bit, end explorer tree, open firefox, make sure you are using Flash 9 (Or have they fixed F10 yet?) then open FFR.
Note:
What really pisses me off is the BETA. It lags ****less on my computer if I don't do that, yet on a school computer that sucks to no end compared to mine, it doesn't lag at all with like 4 other things open... and on full quality settings. :\
Had XP. Rocked FFR.
New computer came with Vista. Don't play FFR anymore.
