I have a question for you people.
I was playing a set of MP games against a guy who was WAAAY better than me.
And lost every single one. He was a fun guy to talk with and we were having fun, so it didn't matter to me that I was losing, though.
After all, what's a MP rank but a number. The game's about having fun, right?
It was obvious he was really good, and so I just chose the hardest song I could think of. Frictional Nevada (FGO)
Now, I knew I never stood a chance of actually beating the guy, but I was doing it for fun. And he starts doing good and I am just struggling to keep up. My hands are tired after all that, and I just start hitting keys. I dunno how or why, but I starting getting an insane combo (just pure damn luck), and he all of a sudden stops the game.
I stop after a second or so, and ask him why.
And he yells. "MASHER! I knew it!" "You can be banned for that." "I don't play against mashers" and leaves.
From what I know, when I started all those years ago, mashing keys was an acceptable strategy for a noob who can't do **** in a tough song. That's me. I can't even see the notes in some FMO/FGO, much less figure out the patterns and hit the correct keys that fast. But, I wasn't aware that this had been declared cheating at some point in the past.
I don't check the forums often, and I don't play that much, so I wouldn't be surprised if I missed something.
I just want a clarification here. Is just mashing keys because you stand no chance of even surviving otherwise, a legitimate (if noobish) strategy, or a bannable offense?
If it's legit (but noob), that's fine. That's what I was under the impression of.
If it's illegal, I will issue an apology, because I didn't know any better.
In fact, I'll say it right now.
TSB_(Fusion): We had a bunch of cool games played, and I was having fun. I'm sorry that I was mashing keys to try and keep up with you. I was unaware this was against the rules, and I am sorry. I hope to play future MP games against you when I get better, because even though I lost 25 matches in a row against, it was fun because you weren't mean or gloating about it. I enjoyed the matches immensely, and I'm sorry.
Sincerely,
Rauchster
