    Right-handed.
I feel left-to-right is easier, but sometimes I can't hit them, and can hit right-to-left no problem. Sometimes the speed of the roll also changes how I feel about it.
Life is simply unfair... Don't you think?

First lefty of the thread here, ascending quads (or "left to right rolls", as yall apparently call them) feel more natural to me.

R-to-L is easier if I'm doing jt roll walls, but I can deal with L-to-R rolls better if they just occur once or twice in a stream.

LTR is easier if I don't JT. However, I do find RTL easier if JT is allowed.

Re: Which roll direction is easier?

I like to think of rolls as repeating flams that alternate between hands. Here are all the flams from the easiest to hardest for me:

              12
              34
              43
              21

So left to right rolls are easiest and right to left is hardest.

I think this comes down to how I position my fingers. When left to right rolls get fast to the point of jump trilling I can still manage decent accuracy because my fingers are able to make the flam motion. Right to left rolls on the other hand turn into a pure jump trill.

Re: Which roll direction is easier?

Depends how you angle your arms and wrists. From how I do, left to right I have much more stability on and you can do more of a forwards motion on the rolls, whereas the right-to-left rolls are a backwards motion.

Right-to-left. Right-handed. Mildly surprised at the results and replies in this thread.

Re: Which roll direction is easier?

Left-to-Right in all circumstances, easier for me. Left-handed.

Right-to-left always leaves me hitting arrows in right-handed columns as a jump.

I think reason left-to-right works best for most people is because PR usage leans to left-to-right rolls for comfortable ascension of tone for build-up's & ramps before a drop. (think of ascending pitch before a dubstep / trap drop)

right-to-left is more commonly used in descending pitch involving bursts, or quick transitional bursts between measures, which can tend to be executed much faster than left-to-right. (Think piano descension in Tenimuhou)

Yea I think the main factor is if you have hand bias in terms of which direction you can flam while doing jumptrills.

I have no issue with 1234 or 1243 rolls but 2134 and 4321 rolls are super fucky lol

Shoutouts to random repetitive 2341 or 3214 patterns.

Yeah, it's like you have to force your left hand to do forward movements on right to left rolls or else your hand eventually slip away from the backward movement of pressing [2][1] constantly and that never happens on [3][4] because the hand (at least for me) always circle from left to right while pressing [3][4]. It's still possible to catch me offguard with a [3][4][34] pattern tho because you might be tempted to do a backward movement to hit the jump instead of rotating your hand to hit the [3][4] first.

I think this comes down to how I position my fingers.
I think that varies a lot; I know some people generally position their fingers in a way when they jumptrill so that their inputs become more like flams rather than a straight jumptrill, but at lower speeds I think wrist rotation is a larger factor. I end up having to rotate my wrist a lot whenever I hit rolls and my ability to do rolls greatly depend on how well I can rotate my wrist in a specific direction.

Anyway, 43 > 12 > 34 > 21 for me. I guess technically I struggle more with 4321 rolls than 1234 rolls because 21 is a much bigger bottleneck than 34 (at higher speeds especially), but I think I perform more or less the same for straight rolls at most speeds

edit: unrelated but I'm pretty sure that handedness would ultimately determine which types of flams you'll generally be good at. If you're right-handed then you should do well with 43/34 flams, but whether you're good at 1234 or 4321 rolls depends more on how much you've actually worked on a certain type of motion on your left hand. More specifically I think the "weakest" flam will determine which rolls you'd be worst at
