I tried Bassnectar, although he's not quiitte Dubstep.

I got a "if the music being used in the game is turning you a profit you have to pay a licensing fee" response.

Now my positive thinking side says "The songs aren't directly making me money via the game, so long as there are no payed subscriptions and people aren't paying to play the Bassnectar songs.

My negative thinking side decided to not respond to the E-mail and take it as a "Pay the licensing fee or gtfo".

That being said.... instead of contacting the Bassnectar team, leaving a comment and waiting for his response may provide a different answer. Who knows, but I wasn't patient enough nor would I remember to check up on it in a week or three.

I'll step Bassnectar's Basshead right away. I've been waiting for a response.. and since FFR is free now (no sub fees), we don't have to pay a licensing fee.

Which is why you might not want to go for permissions, no offense.
It's just that you should try your absolute best to get permission if you are able to do so, not be like "eh, whatever".

I took it one step further than most. I bothered to send the email. I didn't care which way the coin landed, I just flipped it and walked away.

I ask professionally. I ask nicely. I explain what FFR is and how the music would be used (for stepfiles, which I also explain) and if they express any concerns, I would answer.

I was just given "so long as you aren't making a profit". Which considering the site indirectly makes a profit from the game I didn't bother to think about it. Again, that reply alone is a "it's fine" if the game isn't making a profit. So I already succeeded if that is the case.

Double checking though because asked.

Actually the site doesn't make profit at all. They spend money on the servers and no members pay anything. By the way, do you see any ads on the site?

I'm not against you at all. I'm sorry if it sounds that way. You should just make sure you know something before you talk about it. I'm still on your side though!
