How Does Pad Even Work

Been playing at least an hour of pad consistently 4 times a week this year. Been trying to git gud and also get in shape.
I've still just got an old RedOctane Ignition foam pad - it's nice one, but it is just foam - but I have built myself a dank bar setup that is super sturdy and feels a lot like the arcade, so that's nice.


Crossovers! This has become my go-to warmup song. Except that I got this score a month ago and I still can't beat it because my brain is disabled now or something.



175 BPM broken stream shits from a Touhou pack. I bet nobody will know this file because tbh it's not a great file, but I am so damn tantalizingly close to going to the moon.

I cannot go to the moon.

Feels bad.



Another obscure file, but this is a legit 11 by the old ITG scale and I can consistently pass it now, which feels good. Shoutouts to Nathan haHa nice song

It's a fun file but the shit that goes to the main melody with the candles and then you have to repeat notes on the same foot, man fuck that stuff. I prefer the stream sections any day.
My best is 67.26%DP but apparently I forgot to screenshot that run so have this instead.

You can tell from the life graph that my stamina is still shit. It's a work in progress.
Also how the fuck do you do the jacks at the end. Is there some secret foot-flopping technique or do I just need to get better at stanky leg



Not going to post "accuracy" scores because I don't want to burn everyone's eyes.
Yes I'm aware I consistently hit either way too early or way too late and I can't find a scroll speed that fixes this problem.
I always sucked balls at accuracy scores even on keyboard so maybe I just stop trying to be accurate and just go fast? Footspeed is more fun to me anyway lol

Energizer is fun for me mostly because it's such a dope song.
I vastly prefer the Standard difficulty 9 chart; I hate the candle pattern/repeated foot shit in Heavy so much but I still love to play it largely because the song is fire

lol why not

- I only have one pad so the fact Etterna is single-player only makes no difference to me.
- The amount of performance and scoring data kept by Etterna is, to my knowledge, far above any other Stepmania theme or even 4k VSRG I've ever seen. I find that awesome. Graphs are pretty! Plus occasionally I'm actually serious and want to be able to analyze my play.
- I'm not playing anything difficult enough to warrant wanting the different timing windows of StomperZ or whatever shit the absolutely nuts players are using now.
- I'm not that interested in mod courses at the moment; if I was, I'd get OpenITG or something for the two player capability but I have no need for that right now.
- Etterna has a search function.

I'm keeping them there because nearly everything in them was too hard for me when I got them and it was taking a while to load.
I'll definitely go put Mute Sims back in my main songs folder and see if I've gotten good enough to enjoy them

Serious criticism if you're actually going to tell him lol:
First half of the file rhythms don't feel right to me. I know they probably are, but they're super un-intuitive and I wind up just hitting them like 12ths not because I'm lazy or can't do the proper rhythm, but because the proper rhythm kinda feels off. That said I have no idea how I would step that section at this difficulty level in a different way so eh, who am I to complain
EDIT- upon looking in DDReam I have confirmed the rhythms are definitely correct. Conclude: I'm the one who's bad and not this part of the file
The offbeat notes in the section before the final stream make sense as a way to get your life back but they're also definitely not what I would have stepped in that section and they feel weird to hit too. Honestly my biggest gripe
Difficulty curve is pretty all over the place. But I guess that's the point lol

That said, I still enjoy the file so idk, it's probably better than I'm giving it credit for. It's definitely doing its job of motivating me to get better, it's super frustrating how many times I've barely failed it.
