Can’t Decide – Dell Laptops or Viao Laptops

Posted in FFR News on September 20th, 2006148 Comments »

As we spend all our time here at FFR with our heads down in the code and on Flash, its time we updated our development laptops. This time through, we think that laptops would be the best solution for some of our working habits (aka, never away from the pc). As you will guess, laptops allow us to go on vacation and drag our laptops to work on. (like we ever really go on vacation and ever actually stop working).

Keeping our work habits in mind and knowing what all we have been producing lately, we arrive at two different laptop manufacterers that will suit our needs. We evaluated Toshiba Laptops, and Gateway Laptops and yes, even IBM Thinkpads. However, based on some personal preferences, as well as specs, we narrowed down our choices to two laptop models each from Dell and Sony.

Here is what we are looking at so far: Read more… »

The first round of the FFR R1 tournament is over, and Round 2 has begun! Check this thread to see the results and scores from Round 1, as well as the Round 2 songs and matchups for those who made it through the first round.

Also, this week will feature not one, but two new songs for FFR. The second song of the week will be Klung Kung 2004, which is already a Spin it Up song and will join the ranks of FFR songs tonight or tomorrow morning at the same time that Jelly Roll Blues is added.

A Big Welcome to MSI

Posted in Uncategorized on September 19th, 200637 Comments »

After tough negotiations, FFR has aquired permission to use the Mindless Self Indulgence song Straight to Video, off the album You’ll Rebel to Anything.

For those few who haven’t heard of MSI (and shame on you), Mindless Self Indulgence is a NYC based co-ed punk band whose name manifests itself during their incendiary live shows. MSI’s music is a hybrid of Atari driven electronics with a venomous splash of A.D.D Punk Rock. They are the breath of fresh air that is sure to offend your p.c. restrained, category demanding, humorless peers.

You can find out much much more about MSI at their Official Website or their MySpace Page.

And if you are interested in stepping Straight to Video, please contact Tasselfoot (AIM, @hotmail for MSN, @gmail, or via PM).

In other news, the Song of the Week will be out either later tonight or tomorrow morning. This week’s SotW goes back once again to the days of yore, thanks to B. R. Tubb and www.pdmusic.org. Jelly Roll Blues is a blues song from 1915 by Jelly Roll Morton. Quite a catchy song, we recommend you check out the full version of it on pdmusic’s blues page. For more information on early blues or Jelly Roll, FFR endorses Wikipedia.

Cheers,

FFR Simfile Database Update

Resonance Sims screenshot

Badda Bing, Badda Boom. All hail Rickz0rz who has both updated the original .sm file conversion script AND, better still, made the greatly needed .dwi update to the Simfile Database.

The gist of this is, the FFR Simfile Database now can convert most typical variations of .sm file AND .dwi files. Additionally, all those simfiles that contain .ogg files are now supported as well. So yep, that should be working as well.

Oh, and yes, going even a step further Read more… »

FFR R1 Tournament – Round 1

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution, Tournament on September 14th, 200619 Comments »

In case you don’t know already, signups for the tournament are over, and Round 1 began this past Monday.

If you signed up for the tournament, check the first post of this thread to see what division you’re in, who you’re up against, and what song you’ll be playing. Remember, the tiebreak song is only needed if you and your opponent tie on the main song. Send a screenshot of the best score you can get on your division’s main song (you can submit as many screenshots as you want, only the last one counts) to [email protected]. You can also use FFR’s Private Message system to send me screenshots of your scores. Only scores achieved after the start of the round are valid.

More information and rules for the tournament can be found here.

The first round ends on Monday, September 18 at 10:00 AM EST. Don’t forget to submit a score before then if you’re in the tournament!

Cheers,
