Resonance Maint

Posted in Uncategorized on September 9th, 200614 Comments »

We are in the process of testing new resonance scripts today. No high scores will be deleted but you may see available songs change at random during the day. We are using new code and trying to nail down every little bug in the scripts.

Cheers,

It’s Time for a Spontaneous Contest

Posted in Uncategorized on September 7th, 200682 Comments »

That’s right, damn straight. Tonight starting at 8pm Central time (9pm eastern, 6pm Pacific) we will start the contest up. As usual, I have no idea what I am going to do for the contest until about 5 minutes before it starts. I can tell you though that it will involve a camera. So get them charged!

I will append the contest info and rules in this news story.

Cheers,

Synthlight

*Contest is officially over. Our winner is Flypie’s Cheeto. I had nothing to do with the judging. If there was a second place in this contest, it would have been Whorli. Flypie Contact me as soon as you read this. :) *

Song of the Weekly Update :)

Posted in Uncategorized on September 5th, 200675 Comments »

Ok, a couple of quick things to cover here. I will get all fancy on you and number them.

1) Song of the week will be going up tonight. It’s location, a secret. :) I will fill in the details as they become available

2) 2 days ago we successfully moved over to the new 1Gbit net connection. This allows us nearly 10 times the bandwidth. As a result you should notice all aspects of FFR loading quicker. Especially when it comes to levels in FFR, SpinItUP and Resonance. Previously we were running on a 100mbit Up/Down. Our IP changed, so if you know anyone having problems trying to access the site (as silly as it sounds) have them reboot their computer.

3) We have added a beta version of realtime chat for each personal profile. By visiting your profile, you activate the chat automatically and anyone visiting your profile will be in your chat as well. This effectively creates 970,000+ chat rooms on FFR. Currently there are no moderator functions but we are planning them for the future.

4) Rickz0rz is nearly finished with his complete rewrite of the Resonance scripts. Once done they will bring incredible compatibility in a variety of situations. Upon completion, we will reconvert all 5000 files again so that it will pick up some that it had not converted in the past. Don’t worry, the high scores will not be erased. :) After those script rewrites, it will just be a matter of BPM changes that we are waiting for and we should have 100% compatibility. Thank you for the 200+ uploads a week you are giving us in the simfiles section. Remember to keep uploading those simfiles even if they have BPM changes. At some point here we will support them and those sims will be activated. Even if you cannot play them online, you can still download them.

5) Hey! We now have 10x the bandwidth! Give me some suggestions on how to use it! What do you want to see?

6) Our Staff Credits page is nearly complete, it should be released in the next few days. Tasslefoot is working hard to ensure as much data as possible is correct before release.

7) We are working on some cutting edge caching strategies for the site that should hopefully make browsing and accessing data even quicker than it already is.

Wow.. I think that about covers it for now. There has been alot going on this week behind the scenes at FFR.

Again, please send us your suggestions and thanks for being a part of FFR.

Cheers,

Possible Maint. Today

Posted in Uncategorized on September 3rd, 200630 Comments »

We are moving over to a new 1Gbit line today. As a result, our IP will change. You may notice some downtime until everything propagates. I will keep everyone updated.

Cheers,

Synthlight

*EDIT* – Server is switched. The IP has changed. Some will not be able to reconnect to the site until they restart their computer or their ISP propagates. Spread the word.

*EDIT* – Multiplayer is back up and running strong.

FFR Small Bugfix

Posted in Uncategorized on August 30th, 200623 Comments »

It was about time we found a workaround to this annoying little bug. Previously whenever you would leaving multiplayer by refreshing the browser, FFR would default you to Multiplayer play format and it would not allow you to open any genres. This is now fixed and tested. If it doesn’t work for you, clear cache. It work on both my normal workstations and my vaio laptop running I.E. 7.

Cheers,

Song(s) of the Week!

Posted in Uncategorized on August 29th, 200630 Comments »

This week’s first FFR Song of the Week is called Hungarian Dance #5, by Brahms. It’s a famous upbeat classical piece from the mid 1800′s that’s been featured in movies, TV, cartoons, and commercials for years–you’ve probably heard it before. Difficulty is moderate, and it should be fun for players of all skill levels, from the relative newbies to the veterans.

And yeah, this is not a senseless wall of rising arrows like EHHS was, don’t worry Hungarian Dance #5 can be found in the Classical genre of FFR (the game).
