The only thing I dont like about the death penalty, is the fact that an innocent may be killed.
If someone was blatantly guilty of doing the crime, then they may deserve the death penalty...
However, I think there should be something within the law system that allows a sufficient amount of time for death penalty appeals of some sort, in order to either reduce the sentence to something lesser, or give enough time to prove the accused innocent...

In regards to Anticrombie0909's opinion on the taxpayer's cost... is lessening costs of maintaining prison inmates (saving tax dollars) worth taking the sacrifice of an innocent person's life, simply because they were put to death prematurely? In my opinion, I'd rather pay a couple more tax dollars if it can save someone's life.

But that has nothing to do with it,the death penalty should be enforced on the people they know Exact FACTS about .

Actually, I like your idea. I was saying its stupid to keep the convicted there for the rest of their lives, when they have no chance of appeal anyway, since all they're doing is funnelling money. That's all.

That's taxpayers money. And with over 2 Million Americans incarcarated in the prison system at any given time, that's a LOT of money. Those people are never going to be let out. They will never 'pull up their bootstraps', so to speak, and become a worthwhile member of the community. They will never hold a high paying or risky job, if they are in for life they will never get out, and so they rot away in Jail flushing money.
actually, the process by which someone goes through to go on death row, and then to the death penalty, the total cost amounts to more than keeping him alive for the rest of his life.

ive heard its true, but thats why there should be no second guessing...you try em, convict em, then hang em...no hesitation

the death penelty is tough in the sence of inocennt people
however, like someone else said, the advances in DNA are going to make it so that a FAR less percentage of inocennt people are convicted.
so, i am half and half on the death penalty now, so i dont know which way i am headed.

I'm 100% agaisnt it, because I simply beleive no good reason exists in this world to justify killing somebody. Anybody who does or supports it, in my mind, is a murderer as well.

I will stay quiet on my opinion of the death penalty.

However, if I wanted to have a penalty to scare people into never doing crimes, I would have commercial ads that go something like this:

"Heyyyy, what's up? Enjoying that vodka? You better, cuz youre not getting anymore in a looooong time! Do you know what happens to people who get in car accidents while drunk? *The entire rest of the ad is pictures of what happens when you drop the soap in jail*"

I dont know about homosexuals, but I think that'll keep alooooot of straight guys from drunk driving. I use the very thought of it as my Anti-Drug!

                      (Note: No offense to gays.)

                          A) Way to many smilies
                          B) That's gross, but it would definitely work. Of course, you know there's always the whole 'censorship' deal and stuff...dammed politicians.

what they used to do in the 60's at my HS before big events like the prom was show pic of people who got into bad accidents while driving drunk. One person was decaptated and shit, it was pretty gross, another has no limbs, anther was burnt to a crisp.
they'd end by saying: "you wanna drink? be my guest, but remember you're running the risk of looking like that one day"
They defenitly wouldn't do it nowadays, but it was very effective, the images made you think twice before picking up a drink.

i don't know... personally i think the jail idea would be a good idea for low offenders.. like i'm talking caught for possession, caught for having a wepon, (and not using it, obviously) , tax fraud .. you know.. that kind of thing.. and there would of course be a set limit on minimal time spent. like 5 year.. and then depending on the crime it would go up. i think a mojor change that would be good, though, would be making them earn their food. like so that we would't be paying for them, as much, the prisson would issue high security jobs ... yadda yadda yadda... of course i think if the crime is really really huge.. as in.. rapists, murderrs, and such.. they would have to be killed..
also they would get rid of that damn "temperarily insane" excuse.. lol..
