RE: Re: RE: Best Movies of 2004

Flypie: See Oceans 11. It is 500x better than Oceans 12, and Oceans 12 wasn't bad.

Collateral was good, although Tom Cruise could have been more badass, and there were ALOT of details that a real assassan would have done that he didn't do (like, WEAR GLOVES!)

Dodgeball was quite funny, but Harold & Kumar takes the cake for the top Stupid Comedy of 2004. It was amazingly funny. BATTLE SHITS!

Elf, Harry Potter, or any other kiddy, family, or chick movie will NOT be seen by me.

Bourne Supremacy was an excellent movie, although I can't give it that high of a rating because of how amazingly different it is from the book. I highly recommend the Bourne trilogy. Just expect them to be different from the movies, as they are. Quite different.

Man, I've seen so many movies over the past year, its hard to remember them all. Hero sucked. It was Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Part II only without as good of a plot. Ong Bak > Hero, even if I didn't have it subtitled. It needs no words.

Spiderman 2 was decent, except for the "OMGGG AHHHHH SCREAMING GIRLS!!!!!" in every single scene with Doc Oct. I swear, it was like Lois Lane x100.

I'm gonna say that the rest that I saw this year (through BitTorrent, paying in the theater, or going for free as my buddy worked at the theater over the summer) weren't that great, because I can't remember them.

OOOOOH!! Excellent movie: Friday Night Lights. Definately in my top5 sports movies of all time. I highly recommend any and all football fans to see it. Billy Bob Thorton was excellent.

Um, Blade Trinity was about what I expected. As you may have seen in another thread, Blade is one of my favorite movies of all time. Blade II is decent, and Blade Trinity is good... they get worse though, as one would expect with sequals. Regardless, for those who love seeing large black men kill vampires (and Jessica Biel + Jason Lee, so hot + so funny) then it is worthwhile. Jason Lee was very funny.

I know I saw other things like Farenheit 911, The Punisher, Flight of the Phoenix, Assault of Precient 13, Electra, Resident Evil 2. All were not that good.

RE: Re: RE: Best Movies of 2004

          I liked:
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind: I liked the idea of the movie, it was a lot of fun to watch
National Treasure: I don't know too many people who even saw this movie, let alone enjoyed it. I really liked it though.
Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle: Thought it was humorous partly because I'm from new jersey, and the way they navigated through the state was nearly impossible. Also, that White Castle in Cherry Hill doesn't exist, lol. When I went to the movie, they handed out a white castle advertisement with all the White Castles in Jersey... to my surprise cherry hill wasnt listed. Otherwise, who couldn't love a movie where you're robbed by Doogie Houser.
          Yay MySpace

            Hmm...

I recently saw Anchorman and Shaun of the Dead. Anchorman was quite good, but not quite as good as everyone seemed to make it. Shaun of the Dead was an excellent movie, and I still laugh at the bar scene where Queen's playing.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind? You mean, The Movie That Would Never End? I really wish that movie was entertaining.

I really liked The Grudge. I also saw the Ju-On version, which was about equal with the American one.

National Treasure was okay. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't a great movie by any means.

I really liked Hero, but it was no Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Of course, nothing ever will be.

Kill Bill, Spiderman 2, and Harry Potter were all really good.

I have very mixed emotions with Lost in Translation, but every time I think about it I dislike it more.

The Incredibles was FANTASTIC, so it'll probably get my vote for favorite. Kill Bill would probably come in second.

So yeah, I just commented on movies that people before me talked about because I don't see many movies, so I can't ever remember which ones I saw.

I forgot about the Incredibles, Kill Bill 2, and National Treasure.

"Honey, where is my super suit!"
"Why do you neeeed to knoooooow?"

hehe. And, Kill Bill 2 was better than 1. Anyone who doesn't like Tarantino is not cool.

National Treasure was about what I expected. A decent movie that was taking advantage of the whole Dan Brown / treasure hunting kick that we're on right now. It was quite full with incorrect information, but that is to be expected.

Ok, I'll just review all the movies that I saw and can recall at this point.

Spider Man 2: Far too emo. The first one was much better. You know, the one where he doesn't talk about his feelings for half the movie.

                  Anchorman: Funny, but overrated.

Napoleon Dynamite: Dumbest thing I'd ever seen in my life ever (two evers was intentional). It wasn't funny until after the fact, and even then, it was such a horribly made movie (stfu Indie lovers) that I'll die if it wins any award.

Kill Bill Volume 2(1? When did 1 come out?): Amazingly awesome. Quintin Tarentino is a genius of masterful proportions. I haven't seen a movie that engaged me that much since Pulp Fiction. I actually liked V1 more than V2, though.

National Treasure was alright. Entirely forgettable movie. I don't even remember what it was about.

Hero was pretty awesome, but not as good as Crouching Tiger.

Harry Potter 3 blew major amounts of ass. I never saw it, no. But the first blew major amounts of ass, the second blew major amounts of ass, I see no reason why the third should discontinue the trend. And don't be like BUT ANTI ITS A LOT BETTER THAN THE OTHERS because that's what people said about the second movie too, and that was just as bad as the first, if not worse.

The Aviator was really freakin' wierd. The way of the future. The way of the future. The way of the future.

The Incredibles was actually a lot better than I expected. Although I don't remember a whole lot of it, on account of seeing it with my girlfriend.

Oceans 12 was a disappointment. It was good, but nowhere near as good as a sequel to the amazingly awesome Ocean's 11 should be. For the record, Ocean's 11 is one of my all-time favorite movies.

I'll edit in more later if I remember them.

Ocean's 12 was one of the biggest dissappointments of the year. It had a lot to live up to being a sequel to the fantastic Ocean's 11, and it didn't even come close.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: The Incredibles is the best movie that I have seen in years. Nothing else I saw in 2004 really matters.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind---(Kate Winslet, Jim Carrey, Tom Wilkinson, Kirsten Dunst, Elijah Wood, Mark Ruffalo)---Winslet gave a brilliant performance as a woman who wants more out of life but she isn't quite sure what, and Carrey was stunning in his portrayal of what I percieved to be a severe introvert looking for any way to come out of his shell. It was a very truthful movie. Brilliant writing by Charlie Kaufman (also the writer of Being John Malkovich and Adaptation) and wonderful direction by Michel Gondry. Very moving and visually pleasing film. Kate Winslet is also up for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance.

Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou---(Bill Murray, Own Wilson, Willem Defoe, Angelica Houston, Jeff Goldblum, Cate Blanchett)---Murray in another of Wes Anderson's films. (The Royal Tenenbaums, Bottle Rocket, Rushmore) The entire cast was perfect in his/her respecting roles. The realtionships made in this film are astounding...Murray surprisedme yet again with his ability to actually act.) The colors were wonderful, the storyline was grand, and song in the climactic scene at the end was Sigur Ros's Svefn g englar, so naturally I was ecstatic.

I Heart Huckabees---(Dustin Hoffman, Lily Tomlin, Mark Wahlberg, Naiomi Watts, Jason Schwartzman, Jude Law)--This was a fantastic film that was basically, if I needed to summarize it, an philosophical argument between existentialists and nihilists. It was hysterical...but not for the small minded. (I espeically enjoyed the red balloon scene)

Beyond the Sea---(Kevin Spacey, Kate Boseworth, Bob Hoskins, John Goodman)---Kevin Spacey BEAUTIFULLY portrays Bobby Darin. This film is great even for non-musical theatre goers. The acting is superb by Spacey, Bosworth is the gorgeous Sandra Dee, and Goodman is Darin's agent.

There were some movies I saw this year that I thought had good potential, but didn't quite impress me the way that these others did.

The Aviator---(Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett, John Goodman, Alan Alda)---Scorceses's epic tale of Howard Hughe was brilliantly acted by Cate Blanchett. She plays Katherine Hepburn in a fashion that could only be described as mesmerizing.) Very well done. Leo DiCaprio was good in his portrayal of Hughes, but he was a crazed oil tycoon who wanted everything and went bankrupt and crazy. It took three hours to convey to the audience that maybe there was something mentally and emotionally wrong with him. Hmm.....too long. Cate Blanchett and Alan Alda are both up for Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor and Actress. This film is also up for Best Picture and won a Golden Globe for Best Dramatic Motion Picture.

Closer---(Julia Roberts, Clive Owen, Natalie Portman, Jude Law)---This was originally a stage play written by Patrick Marber. It was wonderfully written, but horribly put together. The acting was terrible, and some of the emotion was over the top....I thought it was too much for a movie with such high emotion already. It didn't need all the extra fluff. Natalie Portman and CLive Owen both received Golden Globes for their performances in this film, and they are, again, nomiated for Academy Awards in the same catagory.

Sorry to go on forever, but I am a theatre major who LOVES films....and I am a huge nerd when it comes to these kinds of things. =)
