I love using Cool Edit Pro for mixes. Acid kept crashing on me so I don't use it, not until I figure it out. For remixes I use audio editing, like Cool Edit or Audacity, to grab major things, and try and replicate and create my own sounds using synths.

I know a site where you can dl the para para albums for free if you want it.

I use a massive array of VST synths and FX plug in. A lot of Antares, Prosoniqs, and Steinbergs.
